Documenting

How do you ladies go about documenting things? My DS will be 3 months on Friday.  His father has not called, text, email, in almost a month and has not seen DS in a month!  I have also not made any attempts to contact him. Before that it was 3 weeks.  I tally every time he has seen DS.  But I have no physical proof.  Should I be requesting phone logs from my wireless company?  I have been writing down in a tablet these dates. I want to make sure I am doing this right so that when he comes around saying how involved he has been and how he should get more visitation I can prove that he's seen DS less than 10 times his entire life.

I was in the process of having him served (tried 2x) until I learned that he moved.  Apparently he quit his job and moved back home with his parents (5 hours south).

Re: Documenting

  • I kept a google calendar and just jotted down notes in that.   Then it can easily print out, too.

  • From what I've heard on here, a physical document like a calendar or notebook with these notes has more impact than a print-out. That way it seems more like you were documenting everything as you went, vs a bunch of stuff typed up the night before court.

  • I've been documenting my stuff as well. I'm keeping a private blog, which documents everything that I'm going through (pregnant and alone with an estranged husband, lol...it's kinda funny if you think about it), it documents his text messages, phone conversations, etc. I've also been writing in there...It helps to  vent lol. Let me know if you're interested in taking a look.

This.  I would think you could just look at your cell phone records online and print them off to prove he hasn't contacted you via call or text.

  • I would recommend a bound notebook, such that pages can't be ripped out without it being obvious. Anything printed on a computer or typed is less effective since it can be changed, but a log with a line for each entry makes it more likely that it was kept in time with events without alteration.
  • Ahhhhh...wish I had thought to come on the bump sooner! I've been keeping a Word doc. Crapola. Time to get a notebook.
