VBAC

Wooo hooo !!!!!!!!

I saw my new doctor today and we went over all my old records. She is very supportive of vbac's... I am excited but not getting my hopes up yet... Me and hubby are talking about maybe a baby #2. Although he is not very supportive of a vbac. I need to find a way to talk to him about it... That's because my old doctor told us once a c/s I will need another  c/s. That hospital has the vbac banned. She was not going to let me do a trial of labor with the next, they would schedule a c/s. So I'm thinking that's why he thinks a vbac is a no no...  How did you other vbac momma's get your hubby on bored with your vbac????? My hubby is impossible...

Re: Wooo hooo !!!!!!!!

  • My DH was very "it's your body, you make the decision" but I could tell he was concerned with all of the risks that people seemed to feel the need to erroniously quote to him.  It helped for him to come to my appointments and my midwife was really patient and great with answering his questions.  I also supported him in reading up on VBACs and letting him lead conversations.  By the time DD came, he was so comfortable with the idea and had total faith that my midwife was educated in what was going on.  He couldn't believe how "easy" it was (the way he saw it;-) And he was really happy that I clearly had a much easier recovery.  It is a process to get the DH there, generally.

  • Can he meet with your new doctor too? Then he could ask any questions he has, and the answers would come from an authority that is equal to your old doctor (rather than a book or website he has no reason to trust, you know?).

  • I'm trying to bring him onboard slowly and show him the reality of the risks.  I bring it up or show him an article every month or so.  But, I try not to obsess - because he was accusing me of being fixated.  So my advice is to take it SLOWLY.

And I agree with pp, bring hime to your appointments.

  • My DH has been 100% on board since I start showing him the various risks (both short term and long term) of c/s, and how those risks increase with every RCS.  I think the biggest one for him was the higher risk of maternal death, plus he remembers how much pain I was in, and how much I hated the c/s and recovery.  I've even gotten him totally on board with an HBAV (at someone else's house since we live more than the 30 minutes from a hospital my midwife requires).  Anyway, good luck!

  • I want him to come to my appointment  . I hope he can take off of work.. He works 15+hrs everyday. My hubby is the hardest person I know who will not like what my new doctor say's, because what my old doctor said.. He will think my new doctor is a quack.. I  had a c/s  due to a "fibroid" it's the kid almost every pregnant woman get's. I for got the name. I dilated fast 3cm-complet with in 4hrs. My old doctor even said I was doing amazing .But when my old doctor was doing the c/s she realized my son was big and was sunny side up. Then after she said 'any more kids I have will have to be by c/s'. That she don't want me to have trial of labor. My old hospital has the vbac banned. My new doctor said yesterday she doubts that the fibroid was the cause for me to not have a vaginal birth. She said just looking at me it was baby being to big and the sunny side up position....  She checked me and she she couldn't find or feel the fibroid. So it obviously shrunk back to nothing like they normally do.  I just hope he don't make a issue out of this... Thanks ladies for the advice....
