Tide fail-stripping help

My dipes were a bit stinky, not smelling like ammonia just smelling off. So I switched for Nelli's All Natural to Ultra Tide.

At first I thought it was great-my dipes smelled good again! But last night DS leaked everywhere, and the 2 hemp inserts were bone dry. So I am guessing I need to strip them.

Here is my wash routine. I have a TL'er I do a cold rinse, hot wash using tide to the 1st line, and then dry. Because I use more water in the wash I don't do an extra rinse. To use the Tide should I be doing an extra rinse? Or should I be using more of the Nellie's to avoid stink and do an extra rinse?

And how do I go about stripping them from here?

Thanks!

Re: Tide fail-stripping help

  • I use Tide Ultra as well in a toploader.  I only use 2 Tbs of it and still have suds when I do an extra rinse.  I think I'd strip first and then use less Tide and do an extra rinse.  To strip, I usually add a good squirt of blue Dawn in a hot wash cycle.  Then rinse, rinse, rinse until you don't have suds in the water.

  • I had a very similar issue. Our dipes started to smell a bit off with Rockin Green, so we switched to Tide Original. About a week later, I noticed LO was peeing though almost all of her diapers. I have an HE front loading washer, so I stripped by washing on a hot cycle and rather than adding a squirt of blue dawn, I added blue dawn to a bucket of very hot water and poured it through the detergent slot. I did several rinses and even an additional wash cycle with no detergent (probably overkill, but I wanted to be thorough). I have since switched back to Rockin Green and have begun adding TTO to the initial cold rinse. I always do at least one final rinse, though. We haven't had stink or build up issues since.
