Consignment Sales

I have signed up to put things in one of our local consignment sales next week.  I will be putting all of my maternity clothes, and tons of clothes that DD#2 has outgrown.  Can anyone give me advice on pricing?  Pretty much everything we have is still in very good condition.  My maternity stuff is from Target, Old Navy, GAP, and MiMi Maternity.  I also have a lot of smocked clothing.

I don't want to sell myself short, but I don't want to overprice either.

TIA!

Re: Consignment Sales

  • Check the website for the consignment sale. I am doing a Just Between Friends sale this week and they have a suggested pricing document on their site. It breaks down if the clothes are designer, generic etc. and gives you suggested prices.

I looked up their pricing guide...that is great!  Thank you!

  • i've never sold anything, but just wanted to add that i've been to TONS of consignment sales, and there is always a ton of stuff left at the end.  if you want to sell, always price it on the low end.  there is always SO MUCH STUFF left at the end.  if you really want to get rid of your stuff, that's my suggestion, otherwise a lot of it might be unsold.
  • Here is the pricing guide for the consignment sale in my area:

I priced my items using this guide and sold at least 85% of what I brought to our sale this fall.

  • IMO most big consignment sales price the clothes way too high. I went to one last weekend and I didn't buy a single thing. The one I went to last year I only bought toys. Sorry but I won't pay $8-$10 for a piece of worn clothing when I could get something brand new on clearance for less than that. I would price things under $5 if you want them to go, otherwise what will you do with them? Unless you want to try out several different things (yard sales, consignment stores) and are just going to give them away (like to good will) I would price them low so that you at least make some money off them.
