stretch marks

Good morning ladies! Have any of you started using stretch mark prevention creams or topicals of any sort? Have any good recommendations, I would like to get a jump start on this.

Re: stretch marks

  • I started out with just regular lotion for a while (but I NEVER use lotion so it was already a step up haha).

A friend just had a baby recently and she gave me her left over stuff from pregnancy.  She used Palmer's Cocoa Butter Formula Tummy Butter for stretch marks and she gave me an oil that has cocoa butter and moringa oil for itchy skin when the skin starts stretching out.  It's called Blooming Beautiful Soothing Body Oil.

I'm sure you could get these products online.  I know the Palmer's stuff is available almost anywhere you can find an assortment of lotions.  The Blooming Beautiful oil stuff I saw her pick up at a maternity store, but it might be available elsewhere.

I make DH rub the stuff on me every night.  It's sort of fun to do together and I feel like it's letting him come to terms with the fact that my body's changing a lot and I tell him he's already bonding with baby.  Smile

  • I am! Even though they say creams / lotions don't really help. It still makes me feel better using them, and they help relieve itching!

    I'm using 2 things:

    Bella B Tummy Honey Butter

Mama Mio Tummy Rub Stretch Mark Oil

If nothing else they smell nice and make me feel good!

  • You are going to get many posts with comments on how all of those creams and lotions do not prevent stretch marks but I believe you must keep the skin hydrated and the coco butters will help. I use Palmers coco butter lotion twice a day. I read that stretch marks are hereditary though. If your mom or grandmother had them, you will most likely get them too

  • I use (and love) Burt's Bees Mama Bee Belly Balm and Body Oil.  I use them everyday and they make me feel great!  The are all natural ingredients which is important to me because of sensitivity to fragrances.  While I know they probably won't prevent stretch marks, they keep my skin hydrated and feeling really soft!

  • I have severely dry skin as it is so I have always used a lot of lotion.  This week I started using Mama Mio Tummy Rub stretch mark butter.  I have only used it twice and it feels really nice.  I can't use oils...I just can't stand the way oil feels.  I don't know if this will really help with stretch marks or not but it can't hurt.

  • I use the palmer's cocoa butter formula tummy butter. Or, I did last time anyway. I haven't used it yet so far with this one. For years, I've put lotion on at least once a day, so I'm just sticking with that for now. During my last pregnancy, I was constantly putting lotion on my belly, because it itched ALL.THE.TIME. And, they say not to scratch it, so I would just rub lotion on it, and that helped me, at least. I'm talking, 6-7 times a day. That was just for the itching, though, not so much the stretch marks.

FWIW, I'm stretch mark free Big Smile So, I do think that keeping the skin on your belly and back hydrated helps!

Thank you! Finally someone with some optimism! It IS very important to keep the skin hydrated to lessen the severity of the stretch marks. Moisturized skin stretches easier. End of story!
