Cloth Diapering

Stink question

Ladies I need your insight...

One of my dear friends has just started CDing her 2 year old DD. She is using the Flip system (covers with lay in stay dry MF insert) and is battling stink issues. We have hard water in this part of the world and I think that may be part of the problem. She is having major ammonia stink and can't seem to kick it. I thought I would enlist your brainpower. This is her routine now: rinse insert once removed (toilet side sprayer), wash every 1-2 days, cold rinse, hot wash with Tiny Bubbles detergent (hot water heater turned up to the max) & Rockin Green Ammonia Bouncer, cold rinse and tumble dry on high (inserts only). She has sunned the inserts & covers, used vinegar in the wash with the diapers and is using the recommended amount of detergent. The stink will stay away from the inserts for a while and come back but the covers still have a faint ammonia smell after washing/sunning/etc.

1. Any ideas on how to kick the stink for good?

2. How the heck do you get ammonia smell out of the cover? (I didn't even know this could happen?!)

3. Would her DD still feel dry if she switched to a hemp/bamboo insert and sewed a little micro fleece "sleeve" for the inserts?

I haven't CD a toddler so I don't really know what else to tell her that might work for absorbency/stay dry feel while still using the Flip system. (She doesn't want to invest in much else until she can get this to work.) I use BG 4.0 with either AFFF or Thirsties prefolds as inserts (I got them all as seconds to avoid the MF because I was afraid of the MF stinkies) and wash with Ultra Tide and have no problems to date. Thank you for any insight you can provide!
