Hi! I have kind of a strange question that neither the nurse or ultrasound tech could answer and I have to wait another 2 weeks to see my OB. So, I'm just going to run this by you ladies and see what you think!
I had my first trans u/s last Wed so I could get the "proof and viability of pregnancy" for my insurance. The u/s said 7 weeks 1 day with a little hb of 135. I asked the u/s tech when I conceived and she rolled back the dates on this little wheel and said it was on Aug 10th. Now the weird part is, DH and I only DTD on Aug 2nd. I don't BBT chart or anything but I do use a little app on my phone called My Days and it just alerts you as to when you should start AF and when "safe" times SHOULD be ( I understand the only way to be truly accurate is to chart) and when O SHOULD happen. So, I marked the days we DTD for Jul and Aug just for fun really.
So, when I asked the u/s tech she had no idea that sperm could live for that long and she asked the nurse who does intake, blood pressure, all that and she didn't know either! We had a good laugh and chalked it up to plain old good luck. But, really, everywhere I've read on the net says sperm live a MAX of 5 days. I'm not really concerned or anything especially since we know it's healthy and thriving. I'm just really curious. Can sperm live longer than a week??
Re: Strange question
Could be that your baby is just measuring a little small.
But no, I only thought sperm could live for about 5 days.
eta: the measuring small thing is not a bad thing, BTW.
Yeh, I have never heard it could live longer than 5 days. Probably measuring small, like mrsadamc95 said.
Thanks for all the replies! I considered that I could be measuring small, but before the u/s they calc'd from my LMP that I would have been 6w6d and I measured 7w1d. Is that really strange? The entire thing confuses me! LMP was 7/29, pos test was 8/21 and should have been due 5/4/12 but am now due 5/1/12. lol
ETA: This is my 3rd baby, but I still feel like I am clueless about some things. Could the dates change as time goes on? IE: baby one week measuring behind and then measuring ahead at a later date?
My son's EDD was based on a measurement at about 7 or 8 weeks (I don't remember exactly) - and the date they came up with initially meant we conceived about 6 days later than when we had DTD. At later sono's he was measuring ahead of both dates we had calculated. He was born at 40wks exactly from the day we DTD. It's sort of annoying knowing your due date is "wrong" but as I'm sure you've experienced - the baby comes when they are ready anyway!
