in the last week ds is just out of control. He went from a sweet, listening, compassionate, helping boy to a rude, non listening....you name it but I would call it brat! I love him with all my heart and havent changed much so I dont understand where this came from.

He will not listen most of the time. He will not stay in time out, he just gets up (I put him back on the naughty step a million times. He throws things, he doesnt do things when I ask him. I give him choices (do you want to pick up toys now, or in 5 minutes?), and he just says "nope". He throws a FIT if he doesnt get his own way. I just do.not.get.it.

My dh is deployed and we live with my parents. we've been here almost 2 months so Im not sure if its just now hitting him that dh is gone for a while? I dont know.

I just have to get a handle of this poor behavoir and need some strategies. I've been going to bed in tears every night.

1-2-3 magic is so practical and down to earth- it seriously could be implemented for any kid up to a teenager.

Maybe he's coming down with something, or is having a growth spurt. Hang in there- everything is a phase. DD does this every now and then and we always have an "aha!" moment when the snot starts flowing, or her shoes won't fit one morning. He could be adjusting to Dad being gone. Maybe give him time to vocalize this both when he's upset and when he's happy.

(What is 1-2-3 Magic? I've seen it mentioned several times, but don't know)

I read 123 magic this weekend and love the concept. We are starting it now and so far so good. The book is only about $8 and it only took a few hours to read it. It is a counting menthod for stopping behavior.

I also use 1-2-3 magic and it has made a huge difference with my girls. And the best part is I don't get frustrated anymore and things just roll off my back because I have learned to keep my cool by just following the method.
