Although when they are newborns it will *feel* like they'll never sleep again, but I promise you eventually they all do.
It will vary by baby of course, but my DD was going a pretty solid 5-6 hours (the technical 'sleeping through the night' according to our doc) by about 8-9 weeks.
Now I put her to bed at 7:30 or 8 pm and I don't hear a peep from her until 7 the next morning, sometimes 7:30 or 7:45 on weekends even. We have plenty of time for 'adult time' together once she is in bed.
Re: Remember, the 'no sleep phase' doesn't last forever
There is SO much good and you forget the bad.
I do have to say I hate you Mad! DD was up 2-7 times a night for 7 months until we had to resport to CIO. After 2 nights of CIO she now sleeps 7pm-8am.
So true although it is hard to focus on that at the time. My DD is the best sleeper ever now, and people comment on how well she sleeps anywhere for naps or night. I do have to say though she was not a natural sleeper, and was still up 5 times a night at 6 months we finally did sleep training at 8 months and she consistantly slept through the night at a year. It took hard work and consistancy on our part, but now she is a great sleeper and I don't even remember the sleepless nights!
I had 2 BAD SLEEPERS so far!
BOTH girls woke to nurse EVERY 3 hours until way after 6 months old. They were both on the low end of the weight charts, and needed the food.
DD#1 was 9 months when she STTN, and DD#2 was 11 months when she STTN. We did CIO with both girls at 5 months to "get" them to sleep, but that didn't mean that they weren't waking up to nurse.
I think I deserve a good sleeper this time around!?
