quad marker screening

So I had my monthly appointment today. For once I didn't have to pee and of course, they needed me to pee in a cup. I literally couldn't do it. I found it funny.

Anyways, they asked if I wanted to do the Quad Marker Screening and I'm not sure. Anyone have any insight for me?

Also, they won't let me schedule my A/S until my next appointment at 21 weeks!

Re: quad marker screening

  • I'm jealous that your doctor asks you about procedures. I usually find out what is being done to me when I get there, which I just love!

I would say have it done if you have had normal results in your other tests thus far, but if you've had any false-positives, then I would probably not do it. I've read that it has questionable results.

  • It's just blood work. I did it and my doctor said it looked great.

Yeah, I wasn't asked about the 7 series drug screening they decided to do on me for no reason. But they do their testing in a different office so they have to give me the paper work to go get it done. I got the paper work in case I decide to do it.

I didn't do the earlier tests. I didn't have a NT scan either. I wasn't offered any of that. I did have a detailed ultrasound at 13 weeks where he checked everything; organs, heart, bones, etc. But it was suppose to just be for dates and measurements. The tech didn't tell me much and my OB didn't mention it at all so I guess everything looked good.

It says right on the paper they gave me that the results basically mean nothing. If it's negative, she still may have problem and if it's positive, it might mean nothing.

  • I didn't do NT or Quad. I feel that if there is a big issue it will be detected on ultrasound, and I don't believe in terminating so what I get is what I get!
  • I didn't feel the need so I am going to opt out of mine . . . they would do it at my appointment 9/22 and I travel for a week to France for business so I wouldn't be able to get my results anyway . . . and then I have my a/s on 10/7.

I figured if there is anything out of the ordinary, that it would show up at the a/s.

    That's jmo though.

  • I did the Quad Screen, just to "rule things out", and it turns out that I was at a slightly increased risk of Downs. They told me I had to do genetic testing and a Level 2 ultrasound, however when I went for both, they weren't sure whey I was there because my markers weren't "too high". It was all confusing, and when all the other stuff was over, they said my baby looks good!! So I feel it was unnecessary worrying. I dont want to tell you that I dont recommend it, because it is a personal choice, but I wanted to give you my 2 cents.
