8 days PP?

I live 2 miles from Target and I was wondering if I could drive up there & just grab a nursing bra. Not heavy duty shopping, just running in and running out. My Dr. told me not to drive for two weeks but I think that was due to the meds. I have stopped taking the oxycodone and am only taking the 800 mg Ibuprofen every 8 hours. Would this adventure be ok?

Re: 8 days PP?

  • I hardly post but I wanted to say that I think the restiction on driving has to do with reaction time. Your muscles have not fully healed so contracting them in a "knee jerk reaction" is the issue. Does this make sense? With that being said if I were in your shoes I would probably go anyway considering you live so close. I felt like pain wise I was fine after about a week and did things they normally advise against.

  • I wouldn't.  You should be resting. You reaction time will not be good. You may feel fine, but you won't if you have to slam on the breaks. Most accidents happen within a mile from home because people get overly relaxed. Also, when I went to Target I could never find a nursing bra.

  • I was told if I was off my pain meds I could drive.

  • not if your driving.  I know people push the limits on driving but seriously would you like to rip open your incision because you wanted to drive up to target...I wouldn't risk it.  And yes I have known people that this has happened to because they didn't listen to the restrictions.  Get it online or have someone drive you :)

  • I wouldn't for the reasons posted.

  • I was told that if I was off prescription pain meds, I could drive. I did and had no issues.

I don't think I'd really worry about ripping open your incisions from driving...the danger from opening your incisions is surely worse getting in and out of bed, on and off the toilet...

  • my doc said once i was off pain meds & could step on the brake quickly without pain then I could drive. I thought I was ready after about 8 days PP as well and only drove about 10miles but was really sore the next day. I guess i'd say just to use your discretion. take a test drive around the block first before hitting the road.

ETA: I stopped driving after that & waited until i was off pain meds completely (as of the other day) and now that my incision isn't sore anymore, i feel so much more comfortable driving now

  • Oh goodness! Great advice from everyone but it seems that I should just send DH up there without me. (Scary thought, I know.) The pulling from hitting the brakes makes sense.

  • I think this is insane! I have had no problems with my incision whatsoever. It hasn't hurt since I was at the hosp for the most part. I drove at 8 days and didn't think twice about it. Too much to do. I have 4 kids and a husband with a busy job. I had to take kids to school!!

  • Don't do it.

You are better off having your DH take you. My doctor told me not to drive until my 6 week check-up.
