Hi ladies,
I have done a cycle of clomid, had my ultrasound today and have 1 big follicle 20mm and 2 smaller ones 13mm. They have given me a trigger shot today and have advised that I have a risk of conceiving triplets. Then the specialist advised that if in the chance I did conceive triplets, they would recommend reducing this to a twin pregnancy for mine and babies health. Sheesh, I hope that doesn't happen cos I don't think I would be able to terminate one baby, how would you even choose which one? anyway, my question to you, is what would you do in the situation where it is possible (although probably unlikely) that you would conceive triplets? would you give it a miss this cycle or would you take the risk? This is something my dh and I need to discuss later.
TIA for your opinions

There is a very small chance that the 13mm would grow enough to release. I don't know statistics but I have to say your chance of triplets is very slim. But these are risks you should have been made aware of before taking that first clomid pill. Why some choices are hard...they are also personal.
For me personally, I've had a IUI clomid cycle with two follies (25 &19mm) and a second one with the u/s the day of trigger showing three at 19, 16 & 14mm. I went ahead with both cycles with MFI and nope, still not PG. But if you're not dealing with MFI I don't know how you feel about your chances.

I think they have to tell you that risk. My RE's office makes us meet with a "therapist" of sorts if we have more than 3 mature follicles to lay out all possibilities and make sure that we understand what that means and if we want to move forward with the cycle. I think it has to do with medical ethics and all that jazz.
I had 1 mature follicle to first time and got a BFN, the second time I had 2 and it was positive but resulted in a chemical pregnancy.
That being said, they did tell me that if one takes, the others like to take as well. But like PP said, 13mm is small so the chance of a mature egg in them is less than the larger follicle.

IVF #1= BFP. m/c at 7w6d. Needed 2 D&C's and scar tissue removal. Mild OHSS
IVF #2 = BFP. Severe OHSS. 4 Drainings. TWINS!
I'd do it. I would take the chance. its likely (like others have said) the 13mm follies wont reach maturity. I wouldnt take the chance of a missed cycle.
Good luck with whatever you decide.

Honestly, I've had loads of follies and have never gotten PG so my opinion might be skewed. However, if you're on clomid, 18mm is the smallest an egg is likely to mature. if you already triggered, those 13's probably won't catch up. I say you're fine.

First of all, with only one mature one, your risk of triplets isn't that high. Higher than normal? Yes, but not terribly high. Also 2-3 mature follicles is the objective of most RE's for TI and IUI cycles because even though there's that risk, it's still only about a 20% chance of conceiving one.
And about the selective reduction. Plenty of people have triplets and they cannot make you reduce. That is a personal decision between you and your H. Yes, it would be a risky pregnancy but it's still possible to do.
First of all, like with any ART cycles, your chance for multiples does increase, and you and DH should sit down and talk about what that means for you guys and how you feel about it if it were to happen.
However, I had 3 beautiful follies for my last IUI all over 18mm and I didn't get pregnant. My RE said that chance of pregnancy doesn;t go up that much with more follies. Given that a typical mature follicle is also 17mm and higher I am not sure your 13mm ones will mature in time.
In the end, it's your decision, but if I were you, I would go ahead. GL with whatever you decide!

I dont know anything about the technicalities of these procedures, I just wanted to say that at this point, If you were given the opportunity for 3 healthy babies, I wouldnt chose to terminate one. You have gone this far into the process of just trying for one, that if you actually did have 3 fertilized egs, or one that split to 3, then I would be so happy to have that blessing. Unless you have some major medical issue that would kill you if you had triplets, I would keep them all!
Just my opinion!!! GL!
