Past or present hospital bedresters, or MoM nurses- a ?

I'm wondering what would be an appropriate Thank You for the nurses and aides who have been so awesome to me and my family during this stay.

There are about 20ish ladies who have helped make this bearable and help keep my spirits up over the past weeks.  A few of them have even been so sweet to even bring me goodies from the outside world, i.e. DVD's, Ben & Jerry's Cherry Garcia, books, etc..

I want to do something in addition than a positive patient feedback form. I was thinking along the lines of bringing some homemade goodies for those that are here during the Thanksgiving holiday, but of course not all of them will be here, and I live 2 hours away. I also need to keep the cost down..

Any suggestions?

  • Hi there!  I did a few things -- while still there on bedrest, we brought in all the leftover cupcakes and cookies from my baby shower (it had been a day prior to my being admitted on bedrest).  On a few of my visits to the NICU to see our twins, I brought in a box of pastries from a local italian bakery.  And, after they were discharged, I sent two edible arrangements, one on a Tuesday mid-afternoon (to get my weekday day/evening nurses) and one on a Saturday (to get the weekend staff). All were big hits!!

Good Luck!  I think even the smallest thank you will go a long way!!!  Big Smile

  • As a nurse, my patients are always bringing in goodies for us. Our favorites are dunkin donuts coffee and munchkins. I tend to stay away from baked goods just because I don't know how clean our patients are while they are baking/cooking. Nothing personal against them, I am just a germaphobe! :) And of course, a heartfelt personal note in a card is always a nice gesture. A letter or email to the hospital's board of directors would also be nice. Sometimes they will reward staff with a lunch or an award that looks great on a resume. Glad that your hospital stay was a positive experience!

Lurking and wanted to comment as I am a LDRP/NICU RN. I think the germaphobe is nurse thing across the board. Coffee and donuts are always a hit.

  • thanks so much for the suggestions!

After being here for awhile, I've sort of become a germophobe, too. I've had to explain to my kids whenever they visit that the "5 second rule" does not apply here!

  • I delivered a week before Christmas, so on Christmas Eve I brought fruit baskets with chocolates for my nurses and the NICU nurses.

  • We brought in a huge box of Esther Price chocolates for the staff on antepartum. But we didn't have a lot of money. Plus, I filled out a TON of the patient feedback cards and gave amazing reviews to my favorite nurses. Plus, I brought in a ton of pictures of the boys. Thought it would nice to show them the babies they helped me grow!
