Bleeding

This past weekend I started bleeding and called my dr.  she said to stay off my feet and relax and to call the next day if bleeding doesn't stop.  Well it stopped so I didn't call but still took it easy.  Today I went to work (teaching) and I started bleeding heavily again so I called and they had me come into the office.  They did an u/s and everything was fine with the baby, placenta, and cervix. They said they don't see where the bleeding is coming from and told me to schedule a follow up for next week.   I asked if there is anything that I should refrain from doing and the dr. said that "if you are going to miscarry there is nothing you can do about it", then he said "however 8 out of 10 dr will tell you to stay off your feet until the bleeding stops, take that how you will."  So the question to you is should I stay home from work until the bleeding stops or should I just continue going in.

The other factor in this is it is student teaching so if I miss more than 3 days I have to retake the entire semester of student teaching.  While I am more concerned about the baby's well being than the student teaching I still have to take into consideration what he said about if I am going to miscarry there is nothing I can do about it.

Anywho just looking for some advice

  • Can the Dr write you a note or something that you need to stay off your feet that way you can miss those days without having to retake the semester? Sorry hun!

  • wow, thats a hard one.  How far are you into your student teaching?  Can you take the afternoon off?

But afterall the Dr. said, if you are going to miscarry there is nothing you can do about it.  I would hate to see you have to repeat your student teaching. On the other hand, you don't want to find yourself saying "what if."

wow, a very hard place you're in.  Best of luck to you on whatever you decide to do.  I'll be thinking good thoughts for you and your baby.

  • How hevy is heavy? I've had spotting/bleeding since week 9. Do you fill up pads? Do you feel it start like a gush? Is it when you have been sitting and then stand? Do you only catch it when you go to the bathroom and wipe? Any cramps or clots? I know I'm not a dr, but may be ble to make you feel better. I've had 6 u/s so far with #7 tomorrow. I've had many conversations with my OB about blood... May be able to help a little... Oh and one more. Is it like on and then suddenly off or constant for hours?
  • My motto, better safe than sorry. Good luck hon, t & p's to you.

  • Can you get away with a stool/rolling chair?  I know it's not ideal, but I also know there is no flexibility in the 3 days rule.  DD was 18 months when I student taught.  She broke her leg and was hospitalized for the flu.  I missed 4 days and had to make up the 4th at the end.  Is that a possibility?  There was a week or so left of the semester when I was done so I could've made up up to a week.  Hope this all works out for you.  Student teaching is such a hoop to jump through, and I know you don't get a refund if you have to repeat it next semester.  Hang in there if you can, but I'm sure you will make the right decision.

  • Based on what your doctor said, if it were me, I would probably keep teaching. I think if I stayed home, I would sit and worry. I think keeping myself and my mind busy would be better for both me and the baby.

  • If it was me, and this is just me so take it for whatever its worth, I would probably keep going in.  Like the Doctor said, if you're going to miscarry there is nothing you can do to stop it.  I kinda feel like the whole "stay off your feet and take it easy" thing is just so they can say something.  Good luck.  I'm sure you'll make the right decision.

  • Could you talk to your cooperating teacher and/or your adviser about the situation?  Your cooperating teacher may be willing to let you sit down for a while during the day, or you could focus on things that don't require as much movement.

     Good luck!

  • Honestly - I wouldn't risk it.  I would sit at home with my feet up and just say screw it to the missing a year of student teaching.  :/  that's just me!

  • I'd have to keep going. It wouldn't be financially feasible for us to miss work or add an extra college semester on, so we' have to power through and hope and pray for the best. For what it's worth, I miscarried in the spring.  Started bleeding Wednesday night while at home. Rested, spotted lightly on Thursday. Thursday night rested, Friday went to work and bleeding stopped. Went home after school and crawled in bed, slept most of Friday evening, woke up at 9 p.m. and had my miscarriage.
  • I never really posted this but almost two weeks ago I was bleeding a lot. I felt small gushes. I could fill a giant post partum pad in under an hour. I thought I was miscarrying, was sent to the er. Baby looked great. I had my nt scan and another ultrasound after that. I have a large pocket of blood in my uterus, a subchronic hematoma. I'm still spotting. They told me at the ER that I could go either way and then later my OB and the high risk dr thought my stats were the same as everyone else's since the baby looked healthy. I was on bed rest for six days and then the OB said I could go about like a normal pregnancy. I'm a teacher so I'm back at work, isit when I can and praying that this LO sticks around. I would tell your supervisor your situation and see if you can sit a lot. It totally sucks and it's scary, I know. I'm trying to go on cautiously bc sitting at home just gives me time to worry more. I hope your bleeding stops and it's nothing major.

Honestly, it is. It's sort of a get-out-of-jail-free card to release them of the liability of okaying an activity (or any activity, in most cases). So, if they said "You'll probably be fine, go back to work if you'd like," and a woman were to miscarry, she could construe that as his fault for not putting her on bed rest and possibly sue for malpractice. If the OB places a woman on bed rest and she still miscarries, they can say they did everything by the book. No fault= no suing or loss of medical license.

It started on Saturday and when I would go to the bathroom it would come out like I was peeing.  Then I would lay back down for a while and again when I would go to the bathroom it would come out again.  It was bright red.  After laying down all day on Sat, Sunday I had no bleeding just when I wiped early during the day and then nothing at night.  So I went to school the next day and about half way through the day after being on my feet and up and down helping students at their desks I started bleeding again, a lot.  So I called the dr and made the appt.

I went to bed last night around 8 and decided to stay home today and relax.  Except for early this morning I haven't had any bleeding not even when I wipe. So I'm not really sure what is causing it but it seems that when I am more active the bleeding starts up again.  I go next week for a follow up appt.
