My family starts shopping early & are already asking what DD would need for christmas & her birthday. I have no idea what a child 1-2 years would need or be into (toys, etc.) Besides a new car seat, what would I need or 'want' to get her?
I've been debating the same thing myself the last week or two. Whenever I go shopping now, I take a look in the baby section (as if I didn't before, lol). We don't have a lot of extra money at the moment, so I keep an eye out for toys or clothing I would have gotten her myself but can't afford to at the moment (not talking pricey, just can't justify all the toys I'd love to get her). Some of my favorite items I'll take a picture with on my phone to remember. Otherwise, I'm just getting a general idea of what sorts of toys I'd like to get her. Since DD will be 9 months by Christmas, there will be more age appropriate toys available.
Other then toys; outfits, eating tools (sippies, spoons, dishes) for baby, maybe money for a savings account.
My daughter has tons of toys and i really don't want to store any more toys so i have asked my family memberships to places like the zoo or the family museum. It is great gift that we can use all year round and it saves my house from all the clutter! Plus it gives us something to do as a family and gets my daughter out of the house during the cold months.
I'm working on my DD's Christmas list (the family asks for them from everyone). Some other things that I think she'll like are:
PB Anywhere Chair
Fisher Price Outdoor Swing
Bike Helmet (we bought a copilot bike seat for her)
Toddler Music Orchestra
Radio Flyer wagon
Baby Blocks
She already has a ton of stuff. I LOVE the PP's idea of annual passes to the zoo, etc. but we don't have anything like that in our town It would be great to get a pass to an indoor pool, although that would be more for me than her!

DS was 10 months for his first Christmas and some of the things he/we appreciated and got a lot of use out of were:
Scout
music table
Ball popper
walk and ride car
Since we already have all those things to hand down to DD this year I think we are going to focus on clothes for her.
Rachel and Jeff Married 5.29.05
Jason is 8
Elizabeth is 6
Katherine is 18 months
For DD's first christmas she loved these:
A PB Anywhere chair, a My Pal Violet, a wooden rocking horse and diapers.
