Swallowed teething gel...what to do??

My DD some how got ahold of a tube of teething gel that had just recently been opened...she managed to get the lid off of the top of it, well by the time I saw that she had the tube it was empty. I looked every where for a spot on the carpet that she could have emptied it but there was no spot so I am thinking she my have swallowed it. My DH thinks she will be ok, but I don't know. How do you guys think I should handle this??

  • I'd call poison control and ask.

Was it Orajel? Your biggest risk there is the numbing of her esophagus causing choking on food/liquids.

This.  Orajel is not safe in general because of the numbing agent so I'd be better safe than sorry.

  • I think a call to poison control would be your best bet for accurate info-

    1-800-222-1222

  • Call poison control and just to be safe don't give her anything to eat or drink until you talk to them.
  • Thanks I'll give them a call and find out!!
  • That did they say?  How is she?

My DD1 once climbed on the counter and got the childproof lid off the Children's Tylenold Cold.  Thankfully, we only gave it out of a medicine dropper so we doubt she much.  She took an early nap that day.
  • Update us!  I just wanted to say that I have had to call Poison Control 2x for DD and they have been SO nice and helpful.  I will never hesitate to call about anything and the way she is going...

  • I am a poison control nurse, so I ditto the advice to give them a call. :)

Also, for everyone else, if you call the 800 number already listed, you can request a poison information packet. That's what has the magnets/stickers for your phones, as well as pamphlets with helpful info and advice.

There is also a free Poison Help app for iPhone (not sure about other phones) that gives you a daily poison prevention tip and you can click on a tab to call the poison center.
