Alternative to CD players for 4yr old. MP3 suggestions?

Can anyone recommend a good music player for my 4yr. old? He has a regular "boombox" but he's not really great with CDs. He's constantly changing them, which means they end up lost and/or scratched. I'm looking for something that I can download his CDs to and be done with them. I've seen a couple of kid-friendly options on the internet, but I'd love to get some real advice before I buy.

Fischer Price has a super-durable one, but it's pricey.  I think I remember $50.  Can't remember what it's called.  I didn't buy it because DD was only 2, and it was a little steep for a 2yo  Reviews were pretty good when I was looking into it.

We just have an old ipod nano and loaded all DD's cds onto it.  We actually found one of these portable speaker cases for the car since she won't keep headphones on.

It was pricey but we switched to an IPod Touch with the IPanda docking station.  So much easier.
