Doc may have slipped up with not revealing sex!?

I just have to laugh!  I had an appt on Monday, and he always calls the baby 'it' or 'the baby.'  Well he wanted to hook me up to a monitor to look at the baby's heartbeat, and he says 'let's just see what he's doing in there.'  I don't know if he was using 'he' as a generic term, or slipped and let the cat out of the bag!  Now I wonder every day!  I love it though- it's such sweet torture!  :-)

  • that would drive me crazy! i know my DH and i say "he" as a general term, so that could be it. my MW's office said they don't write it down anywhere so that it doesn't slip. i dunno if all offices have that same policy though.

  • LOL! He might have slipped Big Smile How fun!
  • Probably just one of those things.  I call my baby "he" or "she" sometimes, depending on what I'm doing.

  • They did a surprise u/s at my 18w appt, so DH wasn't there. They asked if I wanted to know the sex if they could tell. I asked them to write it down so DH and I could find out together. She ended up not being able to tell for sure, but she wrote down her best guess. Anyway, during that appt. she referred to the baby as "he" so I was convinced boy for the rest of the day. That night when we opened the envelope she had put probably girl! So your doctor probably just slipped up.

Sidenote: I had my big u/s at 22w and we found out it is for sure a boy!

  • Generally when you tell them you're not finding out the sex they don't even mark it on your chart if they do know.  It was probably just a generic term.

  • My BFF thought the nurse slipped when she said "she" about her baby and it turn out the baby was boy.  I wouldn't think it indicates one way or the other.

  • i honestly don't even think i would have caught the "he" slip b/c everyone always calls the baby a he or she even though we don't know the gender.

  • Well, I would guess its just the term he uses for any baby.

I know that I had to tell my doctor the sex and she wrote it down in her notes - it doesn't get included on the report they get from the u/s place.  So if he didn't do the u/s himself, he may not know either.
