Miscarriage/Pregnancy Loss

How did you feel after D&C? *Ticker warning*

Hi. I had a d&c on thursday after 3 weeks of blood tests and ultrasounds to determine that I had a blighted ovum. * I still haven't taken down the pregnancy ticker.

Everything I have read women have said they felt totally fine after a d&c, I feel pretty normal but sometimes when I pee I have a little bit of a achy nagging feeling in my uterus. I also get a little crampy if I stand up too fast. Did anyone else feel something like this?

Re: How did you feel after D&C? *Ticker warning*

  • I would imagine that is just a result of the strain on your muscles from the operation, which is a bit intense and hard on your body.  I had some odd pressure and other weird symptoms for a few days--I think due to that muscle strain and the uterus shrinking back down.  But, if you are concerned, you should give the doctor a call.  I did that a few times for things that ended up being common, but it eased my mind to have the Dr. tell me that.  I am so sorry you have to do that.

  • I had a d&c friday.  Friday I felt fine, but I didn't get off the couch much. I did a littlre more yesterday, and by yesterday evening I was hurting. It felt like I was having strong cramping, as if I was going to start AF soon.  I took a pain killer, which helped a little, but didn't completely work.  I woke up this morning feeling fine, and went out to lunch where I started to get the same pains again.  I'm not sure if it's normal, but I am going to mention it to my doctor tomorrow.

Also, did you, or are you having bleeding? I haven't had any, and although I feel like it could start at any minute, it still hasn't.  My doctor said there could be some bleeding, but the paper work she gave me to read up on the surgery stated there probably won't be any. Just curious if you or anyone else experience any.

  • Bleeding is usually pretty normal, though I am sure it is different for everyone.  I bled for about a week, which my paperwork said was normal.  I hope you are both feeling physically better soon.

  • I had my d&c friday and really felt fine friday (once I woke up) and Sat during the day. By last night however, I'd started cramping. Didn't sleep well from the cramping and all day today have been miserable. I think I have a lot of gas pains from the surgery, comes and goes in waves. Ugh. I'm gonna call the RE tomorrow if I still feel the same when I wake up. Not sure if this is normal or not, but I didn't expect to have post-op gas pain from a d&c. I do remember from my first m/c that the 2nd day after I felt the worse, so I figured it was about the same with the d&c.

  • Jenwill, def. call your RE, but just to reassure you, I had that too, and it was listed on my post-op sheet as a possibility.  Feel better soon.

  • First off, I am so sorry for your loss. I felt fine the first day after my D&C and then I had cramps the following 3 or 4 days. Some were worse than others. I also noticed that If I stood up really fast I would get very dizzy and almost pass out. That lasted for about 5 days. I bled for about a week. The doctor said this was all very normal. I would also agree that you should call your doctor just to put your mind at ease. I hope you feel better soon.
