How have you found the baby sizes running for Old Navy clothes? They are having a great sale and I'm loading up on all this adorable stuff. I imagine we'll have an 8-10 newborn so I was buying all 3-6 month sizes but not sure if I should go 6-9. Thoughts?
Re: Old Navy baby clothes true to size?
My experience has been exactly the opposite of the PP
I found their infant stuff to be true to size UNTIL we hit 2T. Their 2T stuff is smaller than any other 2T stuff we own.
I would get mainly 3-6 with some 0-3. Why do you think you'll have a baby that's significantly larger than average?
my read shelf:
I think they run toward the smaller end of the ranges given for onesies and younger clothes. However, I did like their onesies better than just about any other brand. I won't buy their toddler clothes because the shirts and pants are so short.
I find baby Gap runs pretty true to size and Gymboree clothes are long.
Their sizing is actually really inconsistent as a brand. I used to work for them 12 years ago and they were AMAZING... But, they've scaled back a lot. Best to stick with 3-6 in shirts and separates and buy smaller if you need to once baby is here.
FWIW, Gymboree runs large.
Gymboree DOES run long. And skinny. WHich is awesome if you have a kid whose long and skinny like I do. There have been some points in time when Gymboree was the only stuff that really fit.
In case you haven't already figured out from people telling you the same items run big, run small and run true to size, A LOT of it depends upon your child's build not just height, weight and age. Make your best guess. YOu'll probably be able to use most, if not all, of what you buy even if the fit isn't the best.
I think we'll have a baby that size because my siblings have all had 10 pounders. People have also been asking me if I am having twins or if I was due any day when I was 4 months along. My doctor says that I'm measuring "normal" at the moment, and I don't have GD or anything, but for some reason I still feel like I'll give birth to a second grader.
I got the same comments with my first. Even had a growth ultrasound saying he was on the bigger side. Like 9+ lbs. He was born a perfect 7lb 5 oz so maybe you won't have to birth a 10 lber??
Also, I read through the comments after my original post and it got me thinking. My son was a CHUNKER from about 3 weeks until 18 months _consistently in 95% for weight) so that may be why I had such a problem with his clothes. I remember I bought Carters 9 months to keep at day care when he started at 4 months. Now he is thin and average height and that is probably why the Old Navy stuff finally fits?
I took advantage of the 5 dollar Old Navy sale also though and bought a couple 0 - 3 onsies and pants (3 sets) but bought most everything in 3 - 6 months. That is just based on my son being out of newborn stuff at 3 weeks and assuming the same for this baby. However I have GD this time so we will see how she grows!!
