Food Allergy

Advice please!!

Hello!

I have a 12 month old son and not sure if this is even a dairy allergy or he just plain doesn't like it. A little background and hopefully some of you has a bit of advice!! My son is breastfed and always spit up after nursing....never affected his weight, nor was he fussy, etc....I introduced yo baby yogurt at 9 months and although he LOVES the taste of it, it seems as if his spit ups were worse. I have given him cheese and sometimes he tolerates it sometimes he doesn't.

When he turned a year, I gave him some whole milk......he HATED it. Gagged and dry heaved when he took a drink. Tried soy....doesn't really like that. I've flavored it with chocolate....doesn't work. Pediatrician suggested toddler formula; he gagged worse on that then the whole milk. I'm not even sure if this is an allergy or him just being picky. I just don't know what to try next.....he is my third child but never had to deal with this situation with the other two. Thanks for any insight

Re: Advice please!!

  • I'd go to an allergist bc if he is allergic, the more you put that allergen in heir body, the worse the reaction gets. If it is an allergy stopping it for now, he may outgrow it. But, try the allergist, worse case, you find out it's not an allergy. Then I'd suggest a GI dr.

    Good luck!!!

  • i would try enriched rice milk and see if he drinks it without spitting it up.

and like pp said, go see an allergist and have him tested. it does sound like he may be intolerant (spitting up/gagging..).

Sometimes your own tests work better.  Try giving him "so delicious" yogurt and see how he likes it (it's made from coconut milk and it's milk/soy free).
