Beef Base vs Beef broth

What's the difference? The beef base seems to be powdered or paste, and the broth is liquid obviously, but is the base just another way to make beef stock? Instead of buying large cans of beef broth to make soup, can I buy a smaller jar of base and make the broth as I go?

Re: Beef Base vs Beef broth

  • Personally, I wouldn't use it for soup. I'd use it in place of stock/broth when a recipe calls for a small amount, but I wouldn't use it as a base for soup because I think it has a different flavor than regular beef broth.

The same goes for the chicken kind.

  • You should try making your stock, super easy and way tastier than anything from the store. Cheaper too.
  • Oh but of the two, use stock not the powder.
  • Like powdered bullion?  I use that stuff when I need to add extra liquid to something and need more flavor than just water.  I wouldn't use it as the base for a dish.

  • Ash, I have a great recipe for chicken stock, but how do I make beef broth? This is the base for my moms vegetable soup and it is not the same with chicken stock.
