Why only 20%?

Hi Ladies-

I am a lurker, but read a lot so I like to think I am pretty educated on TTC. I have seen the stat here and on websites that you have 20% chance of get pregnant every cycle. Having said that, if timing is perfect and you and your partner are healthy, what goes wrong? This may be an odd question, but I got to thinking that if timing is perfect why doesn't one get pregant? Any thoughts? Just currious if anybody as any insight.

I think watching The Great Sperm Race might answer more of those types of questions for you.  You can find it on YouTube.  The 20% seems odd to me because if I take all my friends who have gotten pregnant the first month they tried it does not seem right but I guess I have to trust it.

sperm has to get to egg (a feat in itself it seems)

sperm has to fertilize egg

egg has to implant and stick.

there are lots that has to happen after having sex at the right time.

But there are also tons of women for whom it takes a much longer time or never happens at all, which balances that statistic out. Many people keep it private if that happens to them, which is why you don't hear about it as much.

Agreed x20. I also questioned this, as you did. I've heard people say "I got pregnant the first time I had sex" and hear lots of people get pregnant the first time. I'm one of those who didn't, along with everyone else here. The Great Sperm Race will help you understand a lot!
