First tip: Make DH do it! lol 

I always had DH hold ice cube on my tushie for 5-10 minutes before. Then he gave me the shot, then he took a washcloth and soaked it in steaming hot water and rubbed my tushie for several minutes afterwards.

Good Luck hun! It honestly wasn't that bad at all... there was only 1 time he caught a nerve, but out of 50 plus pio shots... i'll take 1 bad one

I never bothered with heating/icing, etc... our clinic said not to and I didn't see a need for it.  Just propped myself up on the edge of my bathroom vanity so I could see in the mirror, used an alcohol wipe over the area, and injected on my right side since I'm right-handed.  After taking out the needle I rubbed the area a bit and held/stuck a bandaid on if there was any bleeding.  That's it, good luck!

Definitely have DH do it! I've tried icing and not.... I actually prefer not to ice it first. But rub the injection site with a warm washcloth after. It will help with welts.

Good luck!! If it's tough at first, I promise you'll get used to it.

Definitely massage the area after the injection to disburse the medicine.  Then use a heating pad for about 10 minutes!  GL and I agree above...make DH do it!  :-)

I didn't do ice before hand.  Use a mirror the first time and until you can figure out the "sweet" spot and then just go for it. 

Afterwards massage the area to disperse the oil and if you have time, sit on a heating pad for a bit. 

The hype is honestly a lot worse than the shot itself!

omg.  I just did it... I hope I hit muscle.. ugh Hopefully I will get better at this.  I told DH,  that I have so much fat back there- the muscle is probably non existent.   I did try and hit the upper right side of my right cheek.. Ugh : /

I say have DH do it, too!  You've done a lot already . 

I never iced before, but my DH always rubbed it after and then I used a heated bean bag on the area.  It wasn't bad at all!

My DH wouldn't do it for me, either.  I just iced it for a few seconds and then sucked it up and stuck it in.  It was harder to do the other cheek left handed every other night, but I did it.  Congrats on your first one, it'll get easier from now on!
