Anyone do Weight Watchers while BFing?

My work is starting up a new WW session next month and I'm interested in participating for convenience purposes. However, since I'm BFing and plan on sticking with it until LO is a year, I'm not sure how that would work on this plan. I know the recommendation is to take in 300-500 more calories a day when your BFing. I haven't done Weight Watchers for years and they were still doing the basic point system so I was just wondering how that would work. I need to lose this baby weight and I need some accountability or my butt is going to keep growing!

ETA: It turns out Weight Watchers has a page on its site addressing this. I guess I'm now wondering if anyone has tried it while BFing and if you found it effective. Thanks!

  • I feel like Artslvr should weigh in (ba dum bum!) on this one, since she is our resident WW expert. I can tell you from my experience, cutting calories had a HUGE effect on my supply. I really couldn't do it. I was still able to lose the baby weight by cutting out junk and working out regularly*. Not sure if that's how the new WW works or not.

*Unfortunately, that behavior didn't stick and I'm back up to post-baby weight. But that is my own problem.

  • I did it for awhile while BFing (and then just got to busy to plan ahead and too lazy to count points/workout Embarrassed). You get a ton of points more for BFing, and you need to hit higher levels of milk (and I think oil) servings.

I didn't have any supply problems doing WW.  I began 2 months PP and went for about 3 months and lost the typical weight that I had before (roughly 5-10 lbs a month).  I will say that what really held me back and made me quit (again) was that I was too exhausted from baby care to do any "additional" physical activity to reshape my body and burn more calories.

  • I did WW while BF-ing (well, more accurately, EP-ing) and it worked very well for me.

If it affected my supply I'd get off of it immediately.  But supply was one thing I never had to worry about.  Short nipples, terrible latch, intolerance for dairy, colic - but never supply.

Wife, Musician, Fed, WW-er, and Mom of three little kids - not necessarily in that order.
