How much do your 4 week olds sleep?

Today is my first day going "solo" because DH finished paternity leave yesterday and went back to work this morning... :(

I'm trying to work out a schedule and was wondering how much sleep time vs. awake time 4 week olds normally have during the day? ?I put the girls on their playmat for tummy time but they usually snooze through that...I read stories, but they usually fall asleep during that too...maybe I'm not timing things right? ?Maybe my girls are acting more like newborns and sleeping a ton because they were born 5 weeks early? ?

How much alert time should I expect during the day, and how much should they be sleeping?

TIA!?

  • They are wee ones right now. Pretty much they will eat and sleep and poop. Just hold them and kiss them and they will be happy!
  • Ours still pretty much sleep all day still.  They do have one or two times during the day where they're more alert but I never can predict when it's going to be.  We just try to play with them when they're awake but let them sleep if they look tired.  I'm not sure when they'll start being more alert.... but I remember someone saying their babies started getting more active when they reached their "due date".  Ours were 34 weekers so they're still only 38 weeks now.

  • Mine still slept all day long even after they reached their due date.  I pretty much just cuddled them in their short awake times and let them sleep as much as they wanted.  Enjoy it!
  • Mine were 6 weeks early and slept ALL THE TIME for at least 2.5 months, maybe more.  They would wake up to eat and have a diaper change - so about half hour at a time, then right back out.
