Trying to Get Pregnant

For those of you TTC #2

I was just wondering how long it took you to conceive your first child and if #2 is taking longer to conceive so far.  I'm about to start TTC #2 and am curious.  Thanks!

Re: For those of you TTC #2

  • Year and a half (ish) the first time around, on cycle five this time around.

  • We just started, so I don't have an answer.  But I am trying to get it in my mind that these things take time.  I got pregnant with DD really easily, so I don't want to be too disappointed if it takes some time.
  • First try with DS.  On cycle 8 for #2.  Just had a m/c. Nothing has changed but my age.

  • For my first 3 kids, it took 1 cycle each.  I am TTC #4 now and on cycle #2...

  • DD was actually a unplanned pregnancy. Since we are currently TTA, and not already PG, yes #2 is taking longer. I do not expect to get PG right away however because of some complications my OB and I have recently been discussing.

  • I'm so sorry for your loss workingmama.
  • The first time around it took 3 months.

This time we've been trying for about 7 months and I was just diagnosed with PCOS. I'm assuming we'll be trying for a while.

    Good luck!

  • 4 years I gave up counting cycles, so I don't expect to get pregnant again anytime real soon. Now watch I saw that and next month I'm going to be pregnant and look like I know nothing about my body lol!

Secretly I hope it works out this way my husband can't make up his mind how many he wants and neither of us are exactly spring chickens... sooo the closer the better!

    Good luck with number 2!

  • It took us one night to get pregnant with the girls.

This time, we didn't prevent for 2 months, and this is our third month trying.

  • This is where my source of frustration stems totally. With DS it was a surprise, we had sex one time that particular month and BAM! BFP. I also had several MCs before and after DS that were equally quick and easy. After my last miscarriage I stopped ovulating/no period for an entire year and just started again in August, so we are hoping for good news before Christmas.

  • DS was 18 cycles off bc, 13 "trying" (last 8 temping/charting). My insurance doesn't cover any IF testing or treatment so we were still saving up when we got the BFP. We were just about to do a SA.

this will be our first cycle for #2.

  • DD was an accident with XH 11 years ago so we weren't actively TTC. DS took 16 cycles with DH. Now we're TTC #3 and we're only on the first cycle.

  • With DS it was one cycle.

We are now entering into our 13th? cycle but I've been pregnant 6 times in the last year.  I am beyond frustrated trying to have #2.

  • We got pregnant fairly quickly both times--on our 2nd cycle (but with my long cycles two cycles took 5 months) with Jude and Lillian was on the first cycle/2nd month. I just got my first PP AF about a month ago and sort of had a short cycle and honestly I'm still not sure WTF my body is trying to do right now.

  • 8 months. We haven't prevented since DD was born, but I'm still EBF and haven't seen AF so I haven't really expected anything to be happening yet.

  • We were extremely lucky and got pregnant the first cycle with #1. This is our first cycle TTC #2, so we will see how it goes. I'm definitely not getting my hopes up that it will happen as fast this time around.

  • We were very lucky and got pregnant with DD on our first cycle of trying (I had been charting for 9 months before that).

We are now on cycle #5 of TTC #2 (I had a chemical pg on the third cycle).

  • Thanks for all the replies, it definitely seems like it takes people longer to conceive the second time around so we'll see, I start trying next week.  Good luck to everyone.
  • 22 cycles for our son.  We're now 6 cycles into TTC #2.

  • DD was a shocking surprise when we were TTA. Pregnancy #2 took 11 cycles, but sadly I miscarried. We are on cycle 26, but #16 since the m/c. I think it is safe to say it will take a miracle, since dh is not keen on any ART techniques.

  • #1 - 7 cycles natural (not ovulating) 1 cycle Clomid 50mg CD3-7

#2 - This is our first cycle!  I've been ovulating regularly so no Clomid!  My husband travels for work and will be gone exactly when I'm supposed to O this month so his travel schedule will be our biggest issue in TTC #2.

    Best of luck to you!

  • It took literally 1 attempt to get pg with dd, right after stopping the pill.  Now we are on cycle #3 after having my mirena removed...it appears that I am ovulating but have a short leutal phase.  Doing some blood work this cycle and taking it from there.  I totally assumed that it would be just as easy this time.  Please note I really am not complaining though becuase I really am blessed to have dd and am not even close to being frustrated that I didn't get ku yet.

  • We weren't trying with DS#1..I had a lap done and the next month I was pg. We were trrying at the beginning of the summer, went to my doctor, quit trying, just had another lap, so hoping it happens fairly quickly like the frst time did.

  • I got PG with DS on cycle 3. I am currently on cycle two and in the 2WW, so I can't answer the second part of your question yet. I expect it to take at least as long, if not longer, but TTC isn't a constant. There are so many variables that can change from PG to PG and cycle to cycle.

  • It took 14 cycles with DS, and for # 2 I am on cycle 20, BUT....I just found out in August that I have hypothroidism; we're not sure how long that has played a part. I started thryoid replacement and I have my follow up bloodwork to see where my levels are in 2 weeks, so I guess we will see what happens after that.
