Two Under 2

How do you shop with 2u2?

Hello ladies! I have an 18mo. old and I'm 35wks w my 2nd, just wondering how do you go grocery shopping w 2u2? Is it a total nightmare? I'm pretty worried about taking both babies on outings. My husband works alot and My 1st and I are pretty active and love to go places.  Advice please! Thanks!

Re: How do you shop with 2u2?

  • I left them home with DH as much as possible.

9 PM trips alone to Target or the grocery store became my new definition of "me time"

Actually it's easier with a newborn and a toddler.  Wear the baby, toddler in the basket.

It's once they're both mobile that you're in serious trouble.

If you're active and like to get out a lot make sure you've got good equipment for wearing that baby as it helps keep hands free for juggling the toddler.

Our IF journey: 1 m/c, 1 IVF with only 3 eggs retrieved yielding Dylan and a lost twin, 1 shocker unmedicated BFP resulting in Jace, 3 more unmedicated pregnancies ending in more losses.
Total score: 6 pregnancies, 5 losses, 2 amazing blessings that I'm thankful for every single day.

  • Right now it's easy as pie. LO in the infant seat inside the carriage (or ergo), oldest in the shopping cart seat. If I have a big shopping, baby goes in the ergo. If it's not a lot of things, baby goes in the cart in the infant seat, and I store things underneath the cart in that shelf.

I have no issues taking both babies on daily outings alone while DH works. We go everywhere-story time at the library, the zoo, pool, children's museum, etc.

  • My LO's are 19 months apart and my Dh also works a lot so I understand. It's not a nightmare but it is a hassle...LOL.

First, I always park next to the cart return- added bonus if there is a cart in there so I can strap LO #1 in instead of walking through the parking lot with him. I strap LO#2 into the chest carrier and then get #1 out and put him in the cart. I always carry my list. I usually break up my list between 2 trips. #1 doesn't last that long....LOL. Usually I try and keep my trip under 30 minutes. It's him I need to keep entertained. #2 has always just slept while I'm wearing her. When I'm done I put #2 in the carseat, #1 in his carseat then I unload the groceries into the car.

When I get home I bring the kids in. Put #1 in the highchair with snacks and leave #2 in the carseat while I unload...she's usually asleep or content in there. But I do hurry because it doesn't last long.

I was soooo nervous about grocery shopping but it's really not that bad. Just a lot of work!

Mostly this. Now that DS2 isn't in an infant seat anymore, I either wear him in an ergo or put him in the cart seat. DS1 is either in the cart seat or in the actual basket of the cart, and groceries go in the bottom of the cart in a handheld basket. It's really not as bad as it seems it might be, just takes a few times to get I down to a science :)

  • I use Peapod alot (Stop and Shop delivery service) or if I do go to Trader Joe's or something, I just take one of the boys and leave the other one home with DH on the weekends.

  • Food shopping - I wear DS (3 months) and bring snacks for DD.
Clothing - I keep it short.  I will only do one store like Target and go long enough that we aren't in the car too soon, but not so long that she starts to majorly fuss.  I can't enjoy shopping with her so I try to do it at night when DH is home.  I can take DS alone with no problems, though.

  • I save it for the weekends and leave DD with DH while DS and I go.  It's a good time to get some one-on-one time with him.
