Cool: My kid eats drywall

Like the idiot parents we are, we have yet to install a doorstop for the front door and the kids banged the front door into the wall enough times for it to make a hole.

I am prepping to vacuum the dining room so I put the chairs in the front hall.  This provided the perfect opportunity for Grant to climb up and eat the crumbling drywall.

  • He could be on that crazy TLC show. I think they had someone on there that ate drywall already though!
  • It's funny you posted this.  I just posted on 12-24 this morning that day care commented that my kid eats (tries to eat - we rarely let him succeed haha) acorns, bark mulch, rocks, chalk and crayons.  I sort of thought that was par for the course but the way they called it out makes me think my kid has pica or something.

Or your LO could just be curious. What kid HASN'T tried to eat a crayon?

Well that's exactly what I thought but day care went on and on about how he's the one they have to keep an eye on in his classroom (all kids are exactly 16 months) so they made him sound abnormal or something haha

  • Ew!

Unless your house is old enough to have lead paint, it's not going to hurt him at all.  (But you seem pretty calm about it, so I'm sure you're not flipping out.)

LO#1 never mouthed anything, but he also had some speech/processing issues, so that may not have been a good thing.

#2 rarely ATE anything she shouldn't but mouthed EVERYTHING.  She once tried to eat a slug that someone had tracked indoors and not noticed.  It was 2-3" long, too.  HUGE slug.  I pulled it out of her mouth and spent about the next 10 minutes shrieking in horror as she stared at me as if I'd lost my mind.   She'd never seen mommy yell like that--not before or since!!!  And, of course, all my friends stood around and laughed so hard one of them wet herself.  (I'm normally the critter-catching sort.  I'm not the shrieky, stand-on-a-chair sort.  But a half-masticated slug just hit that primal sense of horror in me.....)
