I'm torn about what to do for a Halloween costume for DD#1 this year. She's 2 and she's not big into dress-up yet although she definitely has opinions about what clothes she wears these days. Option A is for me to just pick out a costume for her. I think I have a hand-me-down princess dress so I could just buy a tiara, wand, etc. Or, Option B is to take her to a store and let her pick out a costume. In some ways I like the idea of letting her make her own decision. However, I'm having a gut feeling that the store idea could end up in disaster. What are you all doing with your LO?
P.S. DD#2 will be wearing DD#1's hand-me-down pink leopard costume.
Re: What are you doing for Halloween costumes?
Last year we did a puppy costume because he loved (loves) dogs. This year we're doing this Very Hungry Catepillar costume because he loves the book--we didn't ask him what he wanted, though. I figured by next year he might have more opinions about the whole thing.
NB: We got ours way cheaper . . . I would never spend $48 on a Halloween costume.

Warner has been very emphatic about wanting to be a "big brown bear-ROAR!" for Halloween.
I've looked all over the place, but I can't find a costume in his size. They have ones for babies and smaller toddlers, but since he is almost to big for his size 3T clothes, I know that a 2T costume won't fit him.
Sooooo if anyone see one, please, please let me know!
BH- I could have sworn I saw bear costumes at Costco.....but if you have that as an option, call first.
VT- I would just pick one for her...next year she may have more of an opinion and understand the halloween costume thing a bit better
What about this one: https://www.amazon.com/Bear-Deluxe-Toddler-Costume-4T/dp/B002IRCULA It's 2-4T, so should fit him... right?
Or, this hat with accessories? https://www.amazon.com/Elope-U5515-Bear-Hug/dp/B00263KNUQ/ref=pd_sim_dbs_t_5
Or, this one? https://www.amazon.com/Aeromax-fb-bear-s-Bear-Costume-2d-Small/dp/B000JWRKZC
clearly, you are better at the internets than me :-)
thanks!! I like the first one a lot. I'm skeptical about the size, but for only $18, I'm willing to give it a shot!

I'm pretty sure that Sprout is going to be a garden gnome. he's got a big ole' milk belly that will look adorable in the costume (with suspenders!!!).
omg, please come trick or treating at my house...that sounds SO cute!!!
I have no idea what my kids will be!
but, as in years past, we must do an AW past post-Halloween with PIPs
Yesss! I need to see that gnome costume in action.

Maggie has chosen pirate princess this year so I think they will go with matching costumes this year. I like a pirate dress on etsy and it will be great for Pirate night when we go on our disney cruise in the spring - so yay for double duty.
In the past Maggie chose her 3yo costume (Woody the cowboy) but not her 2yo costume (Dorothy). If anyone is interested I have a 18mo pumpkin costume that Molly wore last year.
depending on his mood, i'll see if we can do a drive-by!
DD is going to be a hula dancer. My friend lives in Hawaii and recently sent handmade leis and an authentic "crown." We already have a hula skirt, but it's flimsy, so I'm going to make something easy. She'll wear a white t-shirt and maybe the bikini-top-thing my friend also sent.
DS will be a pirate. I'll get a black t-shirt, paint a skull and bones on it with white fabric paint, and shred up the sleeves and the bottom with pinking scissors. He has some 18-month striped pants I hope to squeeze him into, and if he tolerates it, I'll put a scarf around his head and the eye patch we already have on his eye. We also have a small stuffed parrot I'd like to use but can't figure out how. I'm sure the skull and bones shirt will be enough for people to understand what he is.
OP - I say to keep it easy and go with the dress you already have. Talk it up so she gets excited. Maybe let her help you pick out and/or make the tiara and wand so she's involved in some aspect? When I take DD shopping, she often picks random stuff that makes no sense and then I have to say "no" or talk her out of it. Your DD might get her heart set on a costume way too big for her, or something expensive, or whatever.
I think you are right and it's probably true about DD. She'll probably settle on some adult man's costume that's $80 if I let her choose.
Good grief I haven't even thought about it.
4 1/2 yr. old DD said a while ago she wants to be a pirate princess.
2 1/2 yr. old DD will surely say NO to anything I suggest.
10 mo. old DS will have no opinion, mercifully.
I need to get creative - buying three costumes is not in my budget right now.
This is my best guess.
Basically a pirate in a dress. I want to get this dress off of etsy Then she has asked for an eye patch, a sword and pixie dust in a pouch (Jake and the Neverland pirates have a girl who has pixie dust like this). I am also hoping for some cute boots as well and we already have a red bandana for her hair.
I had no idea pirate princess was going to be so popular this year. I still need to find her eye patch and sword. I already bought a hand telescope thingy off amazon.
My DD was initially saying she wanted to be a Pirate Princess from "Jake & the Neverland Pirates," but at 4 years old, I knew I couldn't piece together a costume that would've met her standards. There's an actual character on there that she would expect to look exactly like, and I'd be lucky if I could even make her look close to Izzy without investing more time/money than I'd like. Hence "You would make a wonderful hula dancer for Halloween, DD!"
