I've never posted here before, but DS is allergic to eggs (hives, etc) and intolerant to milk, soy and wheat. He has avoided milk and soy since he was an infant and when we introduced solid foods that contained wheat we noticed that he had multiple explosive bowel movements every day. After going back and forth over if it was a wheat allergy or intolerance we saw an allergist in February who said to stop wheat and see what happed...low and behold the explosive bowel movements stopped and now he goes about once -twice a day. Now that his stomach is under control we're wondering if the milk trials we had done in the past weren't accurate since he was also taking in wheat containing products at the time. I mentioned this to the allergist who we are seeing tomorrow and he said that we should do a food trial and said we can decide which we want to do - cooked egg (his blood work showed he should be able to tolerate cooked eggs), milk or soy. He wants to continue avoiding wheat because the two times that DS has had wheat containing products since stopping he was back to his explosive multiple BM. This sounds so silly, but we're at a loss over what to do first since we're so used to avoiding all of them. If you were in our shoes what would you do first?
TIA!
Re: Milk, soy or eggs - which would you trial first?
did the allergist do a skin test and/or RAST test?
Was he ever tested for celiac? I don't think he would have explosive BM's with a wheat allergy, but definitely with celiac. I'm not too familiar with celiac other than a friend's son has it so she told me about her son's scary BM explosives and i never heard BM's like this with an allergy, they can be bad, but not explosive type (other than mucusy BMs - wow TMI!).
If i was in your shoes, i would test milk/soy first. I would leave the worst one for last. Since he's only intolerant to milk/soy-i would go with that.
good luck!
