I'm sure there's a reasonable explanation (safety?) but why are all crib mattresses so hard?? Is anyone else afraid their baby won't be comfy in their crib?

If they sink into their mattress it causes possible breathing problems. The best you can do is add a mattress protector to cushion a bit. I'm sure LO will still be comfortable!

The baby doesn't really know any different; DD slept fine in her crib.
