I'm sorry, I'm sure this question has been asked a million times on this board, but I couldn't find it in the last few pages. We are expecting our first LO in a few weeks now (squee!) and have decided to make the commitment to cloth diapers. We have the diapers, but we don't have detergent yet. Our local cloth diapering store gave us a list of safe to use detergents, but we can't find any of them at regular stores (Target, etc.). I would hate to drive all the way to the CD store every time I need detergent because 1) it's about 40 minutes away, 2) I'm sure it's more expensive there, and 3) I would probably end up buying whatever is new and cute every time I went, whether I needed it or not.
What detergents do you all use that are CD safe, and where do you get them?
TIA!
Re: Where can you buy CD safe detergent?
Most online CD retailers have detergents for a sale - you can buy in bulk, or find a retailer with free shipping. Additionally, Amazon has several kinds of CD safe detergent available - some with free prime shipping.
You may want to try a local natural or health foods store - they might carry a CD safe detergent....
I use this: https://www.theecofriendlyfamily.com/2009/08/cloth-diaper-detergent.html I can get the ingredients in the store and it makes a TON. Never had any issues nor has anyone I have heard that uses it, compared to a lot of other detergents.
IF you are going to try a detergent I HIGHLY recommend getting a sample first. I got samples of Rockin' Green (thankfully) and they seemed to work fine for my diapers and LO for a bit but then she started having horrible rashes, I stripped the diapers and all was well but as soon as I washed in the next wash w/ the RNG the rash came back. I quickly stopped using it and switched to the detergent above and no more rash. Some babies/children can be sensitive to the detergent you use so I recommend trying a sample pack or two first if you can.
