Lanolizing wool problemo

I got a couple of adorable wool shorties and followed the instructions to wash and lanolize them. I left them to dry yesterday and I checked on them today and they feel really weird, like there is too much lanolin coating them. They feel almost sticky to the touch, kind of gooey, and are still really wet.

The instructions said to wash them and then dissolve 1 tsp of lanolin in a sink of hot water with a little soap, and then let sit for 15 min. Then I gently squeezed them out and used a towel to mop up the excess water, then laid to dry.

Anyone have this problem - or is this normal?

  • Totally normal.  Sounds like you did a great job! They will dry faster outside in the sun.  And the extra lanolin will rub off and leave LO's legs extra soft Wink

Ok, good to know. I figured the lanolin rubbing off would be a good thing, but just wanted to make sure I did it right. Thanks!

  • Just a tip - I put my wool in my washing machine and run JUST the spin cycle.  It spins most of the water out and they dry much faster.

I tried this for the first time yesterday (actually washed them in there too because I have a wool cycle and lanolized in the sink) and then dried them on the rack in my dryer (2 cycles of ultra low).  Appears to have had very good results.
