C-sections

VBAC ???

Has anyone had a VBAC?  I hear some pretty good and bad stories. I had a c-section the first time because I had a floating head and started to get higher blood pressure.  My doc really has said he will only do it if everything is perfect but that doesn't make me feel very comfortable with it.  What are you thoughts??? I also hear many of my friends have said that sex with their partners has hurt for months after a vaginal birth. Conflicted.

Re: VBAC ???

  • Check out the VBAC board.  :)

As for the sex thing.....it's going to vary by individual. I've even heard some say sex was better cuz things "shifted" for the better!  So, I wouldn't use that as a determination, IMO.

Personally, I would want to avoid having major surgery if at all possible.

  • I had a vaginal delivery with my older son.   If we were having a 3rd kid and my dr said I was a good candidate for it, I would go for the VBAC.   My recovery was so easy with my vaginal delivery and I didn't even take any pain meds other than a motrin the 1st night so I wouldn't wake up in pain.

And sex was not painful at all afterwards.   I was over 2 months postpartum though.

  • Like others said, check out the VBAC board.  I would get a second opinion from another OB or midwife if you are seriously thinking of VBACing.  Also, sex was painful for me after a c/s.  It has only recently gotten better.  I think it had to do with hormones due to breastfeeding.  Now that DS is nursing less, the pain seems to have gone away.

  • Sex didn't feel good to me until 8 mos PP and I had a c/s.  I guess that was mostly BFing rlated. Research the pros and cons of both and check out the VBAC board.

  • I had a very similar situation.  had severe pre-E and baby was still floating around and not ready to come.  Even before we went to surgery the doctor told me i would be an excellent candidate for a VBAC.  If we have any more children i plan to VBAC unless I would end up in a similar situation (pre-E, baby needs to come early) i personally just don't feel comfortable being induced for a VBAC and would feel more comfortable having a RCS.
