Trouble TTC

Clomid and monitoring

My DH an I decided late last night that we wanted to wait another month to go forward with IUI #2. We kinda haven't gotten over the fact that IUI #1 didn't work, and to start #2, I would have had to go in today for my baseline ultrasound at CD 5. We were super stressed and just decided to wait a month to allow him to go see a urologist for his low morph and for me to look into  possibly having a laparoscopy.

Here's the problem.. I talked to my doc on the phone yesterday and told him we would most likely go forward with IUI #2 and to go ahead and call me in the Clomid and Ovidrel since I needed to start Clomid the next day (today.. CD 5). I told him we weren't 100% about doing it this month and I asked him if we decided against it, if he would suggest I still take Clomid this month while we just try on our own. He said yes, but didn't elaborate much since at the time I thought I was going to do an IUI.

Today I picked up my Clomid and talked to a nurse to ask her for instructions as far as when I need to come in for monitoring, etc. She said, typically you would come in for a baseline ultrasound somewhere between day 3-5 to make sure there weren't any cysts. I told her that we had just decided last night not to do the IUI and by the time she had called me back, it was too late for me to come in for the day. She said she would go and ask the doc if he would allow me to go ahead with the Clomid without having a baseline u/s first. Well, he never called back.

Should I...

1) Take the Clomid and call them tomorrow and try to find out what is going on? If I am going to take it this month, I am supposed to start today, so I don't want to start it on the wrong day

2) Is it too risky to take the Clomid tonight in case he calls tomorrow and says, no, you would have had to come in for a baseline u/s before taking clomid and therefore you can't take it this month..

Sorry.. I know this is long! I know that at some point I will go in and get monitoring, but I am worried about the fact that I haven't been at this point, and that my doc didn't call me back. Thanks in advance!

Re: Clomid and monitoring

  • I might be confused, but why waste a precious Clomid cycle without IUI if your DH has morphology issues? I wouldn't take Clomid without doing the IUI.

  • Kelly has a good point. Remember you are limited to 6 cycles of clomid. So if you are not going to do the IUI and are waiting to work on morph issues than just TI with out clomid IMO.
  • Wow I had NO idea you could only do 6 cycles of Clomid.. I will absolutely wait. I am so glad I asked this! I guess I was just assuming if we weren't going to do the IUI this month that we should still at least try Clomid to up our chances.. But doc never said anything about only being able to do 6 cycles of it. I will save my pills for the next IUI.. Whenever it might be. Thanks ladies.. I'd be lost without you! :)

  • I didn't know you could only have 6 cycles until I joined this board either. So glad I did, we have some very educated ladies here! My Ob/GYN has had me go through 2 cycles and I have still NEVER had an u/s! I did not take the 3rd cycle and instead made an RE apt. Just couldn't see wasting those precious chances. Good Luck to you!!
