When did you know LO was left-handed?

Claire is definitely formed a preference for her left hand.  She will only draw, use chalk, color, paint etc. with her left hand.  Even if I hand her a crayon or something in her right hand, she switches.  I'm not sure if it's too early to assume she'll be a lefty but it sure seems that way...and I have no idea how you teach a lefty to write :P.  Anyone else think their LO will be left-handed?

  • I've heard they don't "become" one or the other until 3, but Liam was so strongly righty since birth that I knew that's what he'd be.  Maybe we can teach each other's kids how to write, because I'm a lefty, and I have no clue how to teach Liam LOL!

  • We have been convinced since K could hold things that she would be/is a lefty. She definitely prefers her left hand. Writing, coloring, eating, etc. I have no idea how to teach her either!

  • My DD also prefers the left but I see her using the right some too. She uses both well. I dunno...maybe she'll be ambidexterous! :)

  • Caroline is obviously a lefty.  Although her pediatrician says that it can change up until age 5.  I have no doubt she is a true lefty though.

  • I am a lefty and I would love it if one of my kids was too. My DD definitely isn't, she uses her right hand for everything (eating, coloring, writing, etc). My DS is really young, but right now, he prefers his left hand for eating. I know this can change though. But it is tough being in a lefty in a right handed world ;-)
  • We suspect that Nate might be left-handed, and his daycare teachers have told me that he is left-handed. I still see him drawing with his right hand some, so I'm not completely convinced yet. I think he might be ambidextrous, like my dad is.

Honestly, I haven't thought about how I'd teach a child to write, right-handed or left-handed! Embarrassed Isn't that what school is for? ;)

  • Eli definitely writes and eats right handed, but when he plays sports (throws a ball, swings a baseball bat or tennis racket, etc) he favors the left side.  Which is pretty interesting, b/c DH is the complete opposite.  He writes left handed, but plays sports right handed.  So I don't know if Eli will be the same (only opposite) or will eventually favor one hand for everything.  If either of them does end up being a lefty, at least DH will be able to help with that.
