Trying to Get Pregnant

OPK Questions

I just starting using an OPK.  My DD is 15 months & we've been trying for #2 for a few months now.  So - the instructions say that a test line that's lighter than the control line does NOT mean an LH surge.  But some days the test line is light, then the next day it's darker, then completely missing.  A few days ago the test line was pretty dark (I'd say just about the same as the control line), then missing, and yesterday the dark line was back again.  I'm so confused.  My cycles are not regular and I feel the tests are inaccurate.  Does anyone have experience with these? I'm already 19 days into my cycle & these kits say I've ovulated twice already.  Maybe it's time for a new box.... =)

Re: OPK Questions

  • The test line needs to be as dark or darker than the control for it to be positive.  Once a positive is observed, you COULD O within 12-36 hours.  However, a + OPK does not guarantee that you will O.  You should test around the same time everyday, between 10am-2pm.  You could gear up to O and get a +, but if you do not O, you may gear up again, resulting in another +.  The only way to confirm ovulation, it to chart your temps.  Fertilityfriend.com is a great place to chart for free and it is very helpful.  HTH and GL

  • Yah these things can be confusing sometimes. I've heard that your LH can surge in waves, in and out, prior to actually ovulating. Your body is preparing for it, and for whatever reason (illness, stress, travel, etc), its holding off on ovulating so your LH weakens. I've also had a "positive" LH surge for 5 days last cycle...go figure! It also depends on what time your peeing on the stick, and what your urine concentration is, I think. Good luck to you with #2!!
