I've been hiding my bump from the parents of my students. My class just started figuring it out last week and has been pretty oblivious. I know it isn't the most honest approach. But last time my students and parents flipped out on me. Parents demanded out if my class. Admin encouraged me to say nothing and, tonight is curriculum night and I can't fit in my suit. So I guess I am forced to debut my bump that I've been trying to pass off as fat. Some of the parents have been giving me suspicious looks. Im told this population is more family friendly like that. But I do not want to deal with it. I just do not want to deal with the upset transfer demanding parents and their made up drama. So I'm going to wear my maternity dress (because I have no choice) and pray they don't totally flip. Can you cross your fingers for me? Thanks.

what in the world? Why did they flip out? And why doesn't the administration back you up more?

I hope everything went well for you last night.  I kept my second pregnancy secret until 14 weeks, but I had to start wearing maternity clothes.  Holding files in front of my stomach when I walked around wasn't cutting it anymore.  I was so scared to tell my boss that not only was I on maternity leave in 2007, but I was going to be back on maternity leave in 2008.  He was extremely supportive, though, when I broke the news.  Hopefully you had a good experience last night.

I'm so sorry you have to deal with that!  I cannot understand why people make such a BFD about these things.  Hope it went well and drama free!

WTF.  Why in the effing world would a PARENT flip out?  And why isn't the admin team supporting you?  It's not like you can't do your job.  I'm sorry, this just pissed me off.  I'm hoping everything went well.

Hope it went well for you!  What grade do you teach?  I teach 8th, and I flip flopped about telling the students or not, and went ahead before curriculum night. Then I was super worried about parents bugging me about maternity leave, the substitute, etc (which I still haven't figured out yet) and no one said anything except a few parents congratulated me!  Hope things went as well for you!

That is ridonkulous.  You're a pregnant woman, not a mold spore.  I hate that you have to deal with that.

Did everything go well for you? I'm a bit shocked that parents would respond in a negative way and that the administration would be anything less than supportive. Hope all went well.
