Trying to Get Pregnant

WWYD...Morning sex/FF related (long)

Apologies in advance for the length...  So this may, or may not be a silly question to some of you- but after reading the advice on FF about discarding temps, I am still unsure as to what action I should take... so I thought I'd reach out here to see what some of you ladies think, or have done in the past.  I have been temping now for 6 months (2 using FF) of our 7 months TTC, and in that time I have never run into this scenario, believe it or not.  I usually temp around 8:30am, but yesterday morning MH and I woke up a bit earlier and H was ready to go.. Yes  I obviously wasn't thinking about temping at that very moment, so after we did the deed I thought shizzzzz!!... this temp is going to be WAY off.  I took it anyway, and it registered at 36.51 C (97.71 F)... which I thought was still quite low considering we just had a romp and roll..lol... Today's temp spiked to 36.93 C (98.47 F).  I popped in some dummy temps for the next few days, and I get an O on CD17.  But if I discard the temp on CD17, and add some dummy temps - FF changes my O date to CD16.  I logically assumed that after sex my temp would be quite a bit higher because of the physical activity, and as you can see by my chart - it wasn't that much higher than the day previous...which leads me to think that my resting BBT (had I taken it right away) would have been a lot lower and that I would in fact have O'd on CD17...thoughts?? (Gosh I hope all this makes sense...)

Also - this month was supposed to be a non-temping month for me...I decided to take a break and only temp as I knew I was getting closer to my O time to confirm it.  It's just been adding a bit more stress than I can handle these past couple of months between work and other  things, and I thought doing it this way might be a better option.  I know I shouldn't make a big deal out of it..considering DH and I BD at least 4/5 days anyway.  Ultimately I just want to know what the majority of you would do?  Is FF smart enough to make the accurate assumption with the "off" temp? or would it be better to discard?

  • I dunno. I would record it as it was when u took it and mark exercise or something and make an additional note about what had occurred.

I had included 'sleep deprived' that day considering I was up earlier than usual... Doh!  Not sure why - but it didn't even occur to me to mark 'exercise'. Surprise  Thanks for the perspective!
  • I stopped temping a while back for the same reasons... possibly something to consider again in the future when life slows down a little, but until then, it's CM and OPKs only for me.  I definitely feel your pain though... Hope things settle down for you.

With regards to your question, in addition to "sleep deprived" I would also recommend checking off "exercise", like PP said.  I'd say it's a tough call, given that FF wants to change your O date based on whether you keep or discard the temp.  You may just have to play it by ear this cycle, and see where your temps take you.  It can be tough to judge, especially with your +OPK on CD15 because you can O anywhere form 12-36 hours after.  On the bright side of things, like you said - you and YH had pretty good timing Yes..so ultimately it really shouldn't matter all too much.  Good luck to you this cycle!

  • I often use what I know about my body (along with common sense) to guide FF in the right direction if I have a close call like that. So -- what do you think is right?  Were you checking any secondary signs (CM, CP) that might clue you in?

Also, have you ever tried taking your temp in a "bad" way -- i.e., take the temp per usual, then get up, pee, temp again?  I have found that my temps are weirdly consistent no matter what I do.  I don't seem to be affected by sleep length -- if I temp at the normal time, and then go back to sleep, when I wake up my temp is the same again or within .1 degree.  If I temp, then get up to pee and temp again, it's the same.  This certainly isn't true for all women, but I've done tons of "experiments" and it seems to be true for me.  You might do some experiments yourself -- like maybe temp, have sex, then temp again.

IMHO it sounds like your sex day was your O day.  O day can be accompanied by a dramatic drop in temp -- which could explain why your temp was still low even after an energetic romp in the hay.

Severe MFI. Me: supposedly all clear but eggs showed vacuoles.

IVF #1 January 2012, ER Jan 14th: 34R, 27M, 23F. Day 3: 18 embies still strong. Day 5: zero "good," one "fair," the rest "poor." Transferred 3. None made it to blast or to freeze. Jan 28: BFN.

Lucky IVF #2: Transferred two beautiful day three embies on St. Patrick's Day. BFP on HPT 7dp3dt. Beta 1 (14dpER)=106; Beta 2 (16dpER)=140; Beta 3 (19dpER)=264! First u/s 4.17.

This. Plus you still had W cm that day and an OBVIOUS temp jump on cd18.

No, I've never experimented with using "bad" temps but I think I may give it a whirl now, just to see what happens.  As far as m O date, I personally agree with CD17.  Was just curious about the whole discard vs. keep in general..

Thanks so much for your input... much appreciated.
