Feeling like a bad auntie NOW with f/u

My nephew (20 months) is over because I'm babysitting him while SIL and BIL are out for her birthday. We've been having such a fun time and we were playing and he tripped and hit his face on our coffee table. The coffee table is round so it wasn't a pointy corner but he has a huge goose egg under his eye and it's already turning colours. He's calmed down already but I feel horrible. I know it happens but I don't like it to happen while they are in my care.

F/U: BIL and SIL got here and saw it immediately. They were a little shocked as it's one of his first big "boo boo"'s but they weren't upset. It was pretty ugly by the time they got here. He was happy so that helped our case.

I have tile floors and my friends 10 month old fell yesterday, no bump but it had to hurt...I kinda figure babies fall, dont worry about it.  I am sure your sil has seen her baby fall a million times.  Dont feel bad you can keep them from bumping their heads it just happens.

Awww, poor kiddo.  My DS is almost 20 months and the other day he slipped when trying to climb onto my bed and hit the side of his head on the corner post (rounded corners, whew!) and had a 3 inch long, 1 inch wide bump!  It was awful, but he was otherwise fine.  I'm amazed at how quickly it has healed!

I had that happen to a kid at work. I felt HORRIBLE. Honestly, he was back to normal in a couple of minutes and looked a lot better the next day.

It def harder when it's someone else's kid!  But, when it's your own people are obnoxious, too.  DD was born with a large red blotch on her elbow (hemangioma).  I remember taking her to the grocery store and having someone say "Oh my gawd, what's wrong with her arm?"  Then when she was 18 months she broke her leg and was in a hard cast for 6 weeks.  Yeah, that sucked for a lot of reasons!  The looks and comments made me feel like the worst parent in the world.
