Moms of boys who were circumcised while in the NICU/SCN what were your experiences? My boys are due to go under the knife this week and I was warned they could be pretty lethargic afterward.
Your boys are adorable! I love their sleepers - I have the same one for DS.
Michael was pretty sleepy all the time anyway - I didn't see much of a change in that either way. He did cry when he came back from getting it done but they gave him a paci dipped in sugar water and it calmed him down really well. Good luck!
Hmmm aren't they sleeping all the time anyway? DS got his circumcision while in NICU and it went well - he got cranky a little later during a change of diaper but I don't remember it clearly which means NBD.
Tristan was circumcised a few days before he was discharged. I was really worried about him! He was fine afterwards----didn't seem extra sleepy or cranky or anything. He seemed more out of it after his immunizations than he was after his circ. By the way, your little ones are adorable! How exciting that they are getting ready to come home!
We were warned that the circ might make Eli have more A's and B's. And it definitely did. He had had 3 days without any spells, and BOOM, had a few after the circ.
A HUGE sore spot for me and my husband...the head Neo told us that circs nearly always cause spells. And Eli couldn't come home without 5 straight days spell-free. Yet they schedule the circ the day before he was scheduled to come home. In essence, landing us another 5 days in the NICU. We fought it and came home in 2 days, but it was a nightmare dealing with them and trying to get them to see how illogical it was!!!
For some reason I was totally freaking out over the circumcision. I wouldn't have minded if we skipped the circ but my DH wanted it. I cried as they wheeled him down the hallway. But he was asleep when he came back and he didn't seem to be bothered at all by it afterwards. I think it was much tougher on me that it was on him:) The hardest part of him was not being able to sit in his little NICU bathtub for a few days while it healed.
Your boys are so cute! Congrats on being so close to homecoming!!!!
Anthony had a "plastibell" style surgery. He was ravenous afterward (took his whole bottle in about 10 minutes when the nurse gave it to him). It was also really easy to take care of...no vaseline needed! And it fell off in about 6 days. I didn't think he was lethargic or terribly upset. (He was only really lethargic after that awful eye exam 2 days earlier! I felt so terrible for him then.) He did bleed a little bit, but it wasn't really bothersome.
My surgeon said there are a variety of circ. techniques that different docs use, so I'd ask what technique will be used.
That is good to know because they will be getting the plastibell. Last week their 2 month shots were a doozy causing Miles to desat/brady and be a slug with his feedings for about 24 hours.

I, however, was a wreck.
