I am heavily considering signing DD#1 up for a beginner skating class that starts next month. Just looking for some input/comparisons here, I guess...
If your DC is in skating, how many times per week and for how long is the class?
What does DC normally wear to the classes/practice time?
What was his/her level before beginning the class?
Re: anyone's DC in ice skating lessons?
DS has class 1x a week. He had very little skating experience when he started at 3 y/o and it took him a long time to pass Sam 1. then last year he passed each class the first time. He was just ready and we also did a lot of skating outside of class, too.
His classes have always been 25 mins long with 25 mins of practice before or after, which he's never really been interested in.
He usually wears snow pants, warm gloves, helmet, and long sleeves under a light jacket or fleece.
DS has done them. 1x/week for 30 minutes. We'd skated a few times before, but he was not proficient. He progressed quickly, though. We started at age 4, I think.
DS usually wore athletic pants, mittens, helmet (a must IMO!), and a jacket.
ds skates 1x a week. 25 minute classes. He took Learn To Skate 1 and 2 lastyear and didn't love it, but didn't hate it. We just started back up after the summer. Two classes in and he's bored. He wants to play hockey, but can't until he knows how to skate. It's a good thing skating is fairly cheap or I'd be pulling him from the class.
He also wears a helmet, 2 pairs of socks, some kind of pant that repels the water, but not necessarily snow pants. A couple shirts and either a winter jacket or a fleece.
