In need of puppy prayers..PIP

Here is Emma. She is 9. She is my baby, she is a very sweet girl, very loving, and a people dog. She is the dog that socializes with people in the dog park....she isnt doing well and it is breaking my heart. She has luxating patellas - basically her knee caps are out of place and she has VERY bad arthritis, it is getting worse, she is panting, her tail is between her legs -- she has been on pain meds since early spring and joint meds for 6 years. I know she wont get better, she has been dealing with it all for these 6 years but it is getting worse. She is still going potty and eating but not as much as she used to. 

The afternoons seem to be her best time but its hard for her go go up and down the one step to go out side. I hate seeing her like this and it is times like this I wish dogs could talk so I could know how much pain she really is in and when it is time.

If you can add her and us to your thoughts, I'd appreciate it. Thank you.

This breaks my heart b/c I know my puppy will be in the same shape in a few years if not sooner. She has been on pain meds and joint supplements for the past year and will have to be on them for the rest of her life.

All the t&p's I have being sent to you.  we lost our 13 yr old lab, Jack in February due to arthritis and it was so hard for me and H we loved, and still do so much.  I miss him everyday.  I hope you are able to find some comfort and peace.

I always say I wish our dogs could talk to tell us if they are in pain, scared, upset, ect. It would be so nice..

Im anxious everyday at lunch to go home and see her -- I am going to put a ramp or some sort if I can find some wood to help her outside.

I'm trying really hard not to cry.  I just love dogs so much, and I get where you are at.  My previous dog was a total trooper through a lot of stuff, and we finally put him down when his brain started short circuiting.  It is NOT an easy decision.  Can your hubby build her a little ramp so she doesn't have to go down that stair?  I am definitely keeping you and Emma in my thoughts and prayers.  Oh, and one more thing.  Have you ever heard of Synflex?  (https://www.synflexamerica.com/pet/synflex.php)  I'm a huge advocate of it over pill form glucosamine.  We had a dog with a shoulder injury that would not heal for anything, and we started him on this.  He's perfect as new.  His injury was a shoulder injury, so I don't know that you'd see the exact same results, but it's such a great product for arthritis relief.  I can't find the part of the site that talks about it, but I think it helps rebuild the cartilage so the bones don't rub together.  We plan to start buying it again when our lab shows signs of joint discomfort.

Oh hun, I'm so very sorry, I would be such a wreck if this was happening to my dog (same age), I will hope for a miracle that she can live longer and not be in pain.  Poor baby girl!!!  Loves to you and your beautiful doggie!!

I put a piece of board - a large one, and she just walked around it! she was like no thanks!

I will look into that synflex. you use that over the glucosamine? do you need to clear it with a vet?

Ugh - it is so heartbreaking watching a furry member of the family get older & struggle. It sounds like you are doing everything you can for her & I'm sure she loves you very much for that. Panting for no reason is usually a sign of pain so maybe her pain meds are no longer effective?

I have no doubt in my mind that you will know when the time is right to have to say goodbye & I'm sure Emma will let you know it is time also.

Keeping you in my thoughts & hoping you find the strength in making a difficult decision when the time comes.

I think right now she is hanging in there -- she didnt eat as much this morning though, I am calling the vet today to see if there is anything else we can do.
