Two Under 2

when did your older child move OUT of crib?

whether or not you put them into a single, double, converted toddler bed (from your crib) or standard toddler bed... HOW old were they?  i can't see my son being ready to leave the crib till well after 2 b/c he's such a mover/explorer!  :)

when new baby will be born my son will be 18mo old fyi.

i'm sure this has been asked before but the search option is always lacking...

Re: when did your older child move OUT of crib?

  • My son is 20 months and I have no plans to do it any time soon. He likes his crib and I'm able to put him in there with his toys while I shower, etc. He loves play in there and has never showed any signs of trying to escape. I'm in no hurry...LOL. I probably won't convert until around 2 1/2
  • I still haven't...

  • Most of my friends didn't move their kids before 2, even with new babies in the house.

  • Hasn't happened yet and she will be 2 in less than two weeks.  We are moving in about nine months and our plan is to leave her in the crib until then, unless she starts climbing out.  Thankfully, she has not even begun to try.

  • DS was 18 months old when DD was born and was NO way ready for one. We bought a second crib from Graco and it was great. He moved out of his bed at 2.5. He was having night terrors and since he was sleeping poorly we decided it couldnt get any worse so we might as well try We got a twin bed with a rail and fun sheets and he loved it. Its been smooth since.

  • DS is 2.5 and he is still in his crib.  He has no motivation to move out of it either. I've asked him if he wants to sleep in a bed like Mommy's and he says no.  His crib turns into a toddler bed so I might try it over the next few months, but I'm in no rush.  When he's ready, we'll let us know.

  • When he started trying to climb out at around 28 months.

The younger one made it to 32 months.

I'm a fan of the "if it ain't broke, don't fix it" approach with sleep so I left them in as long as humanly possible.

Our IF journey: 1 m/c, 1 IVF with only 3 eggs retrieved yielding Dylan and a lost twin, 1 shocker unmedicated BFP resulting in Jace, 3 more unmedicated pregnancies ending in more losses.
Total score: 6 pregnancies, 5 losses, 2 amazing blessings that I'm thankful for every single day.
  • Looks like I am in the minority here.  Mine are 20 months apart and I moved DD into a toddler bed at 17 months then into the twin bed after about 2 weeks in the toddler bed.  She did great.  We have a gate at her door (I don't like to close doors) she stays in her bed most of the time and just calls me when she is ready to get up in the middle of the night.  She wasn't climbing out but I didn't want two cribs and she was ready.  She is also potty trained now and I knew I was going to try to do that early and I don't think it is fair to potty train with her still in a crib.  She has a potty in her room if she gets up at night and has to go.

  • We did it a month ago. No change.

We put up a bed rail & he thinks he's still in a crib, lol. I think he has gotten out himself maybe 2x. The rest of the time he yells for me when he wakes up, I walk to his door, & remind him he can get down himself. Smile

  • DS moved from his crib to a twin bed with a safety rail at 22 months because we needed the crib for DD. He was in the twin bed 2 months before she was born. He would have stayed in the crib until he just would not stay in it if we had not had a second child.

  • DS1 was 2 1/2, DS2 was 2 1/2, DD1 was 20 months and DD2 will be around 2

This! Our oldest DD stayed in it until she started climbing out lol. I know it was after 2 years but before 2.5..that whole time period is pretty much a blur haha

  • DS#1 went from a crib to a full size bed (simply because that is what we had in the house) at 15 months and has done GREAT!  :)  He is tall though and started crawling out of his crib around 13 months so we knew it was the safe choice to make.

  • This is a good question and I was wondering the same thing. My son is 16 months old. When my daugther is born in December he will be 19 months. I am nowhere near ready for him to transition to a bed, and he loves his crib.  I'm thinking around 2 1/2.
