Toddlers: 12 - 24 Months

Had my first experience with the Huggies slip on diapers

And I hate them.  I was babysitting a 1 year old (since this post is about him, I'm posting on here even though my own son is 2 now- sniff sniff).  I ended up opening the tabs and putting it on like a normal diaper after a while.  He had an awful diaper rash and I had to put cream on him.  I don't think there was any way I could slip a diaper on him without making a mess and rubbing off the cream.  Does anyone here like them?  I'm curious why Huggies thought it was a good idea.  Diapers have been made to open up for how many generations?  It's kind of like, "if it's not broke, don't fix it."  But maybe for some babies it's a lifesaver.

I was thinking about getting them bc my daughter fights laying down for most diaper changes.  But we still had 2 big cases of luvs left and if pt-ing works this week it won't matter anyway.

  • I am using them on my toddler as pull-ups. He is TINY, almost 3, and in size 3 of the Slip Ons. I only bought them because I got a giant pack at Target for cheap by combining coupons. We usually use 7th generation from Amazon Mom . Anyway...

I actually like them. We don't have a problem with the rash cream coming off, just pull out as you pull up and it stays in place fine.

I also don't really see how they are a "need" but I know a few people who had issues finding pullups for their very small toddlers (my best friend has an almost 3 year old who has yet to break 20 lbs, she is just a tiny peanut) and this is really a good thing for her.

  • I love them! It is easier for me as DD refuses to lay down to get her diaper changed when we are out in public so she stands up and we change that way. It is way easier than trying to get the tabs right on regular diapers. I do still use the regular ones at home and save the slip on ones for when we are out. I also think that since we are just starting to potty train that the real pull ups that feel cold when they get wet were confusing her and not helping at all so having just regular diapers in the same form as the pull ups are great.

  • I am not even trying them.  I don't see how it's any easier to change them.

  • I haven't tried them but it is good to know they work as pull-ups for tiny toddlers.  My LO is 18 months, 21 pounds, and is in size 3 diapers.  We are not potty training yet but I was curious what I would do since he is so small for his size.

You must not have a child who struggles through every diaper change. I've thought about buying them. Slipping on a diaper like shorts would be so much easier than trying to wrestle DD into a new diaper and close the tabs before she gets away. We use Pampers, and I like the way they fit DD, so I'm reluctant to give Huggies a try. Plus I have a feeling they're more expensive, and I'm cheap that way.

  • I bought a pack because they were on sale and I had a $3 off coupon. DD1 fights changes like a champ! It's utterly exhausting to get a diaper off her and her cleaned up let alone get a new one on! I LOVE these diapers. I wouldn't buy them w/o the coupon because there are less in a package making them more $$$ BUT to clean her and then lift her onto my lap where she'll sit calmly playing with my hair while I slip a diaper on her is absolute HEAVEN! I'm not sure they've be that great for a boy cause you'd have to make sure he was pointing down after getting the diaper on, but for girls they're AWESOME!
  • I think getting them on would be great, but I wouldn't want to slip off a poopy diaper.  I didn't know until I read this thread that they have tabs.  So I guess you can take these diapers off like regular diapers?

DS also fights changes like a maniac.  Ruckus!

  • I love the diapers.  Not so much the cost.  But if they are on sale, or I have coupons, I will definitely buy them.  DS is kind of potty training and these work out amazingly.  Plus, he will tolerate a diaper change up until I am trying to get the tabs on him.  I love these diapers, just wish they were a little cheaper.  Oh, and I wish they were just a little bit more narrow in the crotch.

  • I bought them because I have a coupon - I hate them. My H asked why I bought them?

My sone also fights diaper changes but we still use a changing table and the slip ones are a hassle.

    Someone can have mine.

The pull-ups are supposed to be cold so that LO can feel the difference.

My daycare requires the 2 year old class to be in pull-ups, so we will move to pull ups or perhaps the diaper ones due to LO size (just hit 20 lbs) but I am hesitant on the diaper ones due to the absorbing factor and it being harder for LO to know when he is wet.  We will see; hopefully we will hit a growth spurt.  My DS1 was a similar size and I don''t require issues with the sizes of pull-ups.

I don't think pull ups really do a great job of letting kids know they're wet. They are pretty much glorified diapers. We used them to potty train DD1 anyway, but that was because I didn't want to deal with the mess from accidents. We started potty training when she started telling me she had to go potty, so she knew before her pull up ever got wet.

  • The only thing I found with pull-ups where more rashed because they don't wick the moisture away like diapers do.

I like the idea of the pull up diapers though. Especially if you are out & about & can't get to a changing table. Once I had to change DD's diaper in a department store behind a clothes rack while she stood up. One of those pull up ones would of worked great & she wouldn't be susceptible to rashes. She's potty trained now but still wears a diaper to bed at night.

  • Yeah, I'm not a fan either.  I bought 2 packs because I had coupons and they were a good price, but I won't buy them again.  They are too wide and they end up falling down, and the sides are so stretchy that if you pull too hard putting them on they rip and then you have to tape the diaper on.  Stupid, IMO.
