siblings sharing a room

I have two boys, the oldest is 4.5 and little brother is almost two. We are getting ready to buy a big boy bed for little brother and are considering buying a bunk bed and letting the boys share a room for a little while allowing the additional bedroom to be their playroom. They play with all of the same toys and honestly the toys are taking over and it drives me crazy. I am looking for advice from others who have done the same. I am worried that we will make this purchase and put them in one room and regret it. I know we will separate them again but I would like for this to be something that would last a few years. Please share your advice. tia

Re: siblings sharing a room

  • My two girls, 2.5 & 4, have shared a room since the little was out of the bassinet in our room. I wouldn't have it any other way. We have spare bedrooms & choose to keep them together. This may change as they get older but for now it works great for us. I reccomend it to all my friends with new babes.

  • How about getting one of those bunk beds that separates?

  • I think sharing a room is great.  However, I wouldn't feel comfortable with my 2 yo in a room with a bunk bed.  What about two twin beds?

  • DS1 is 5 and DS2 is 3 and they share a room. We bought them a bunk bed last March and they love it!  The basement is the playroom/entertainment room, so all the toys are down there.  They have a toy box in their room, with a limited amount of toys (mostly their favs).  They've been doing fine.  They even had their own TV in there.  Eventually, when DS1 is a bit older, he'll get his own room and the DS2 and DS3 will share a room for a while.

The extra room we have now is the nursery for the new LO set to arrive on the 17th.

  • i would not want a bunk bed anywhere NEAR my 2yo boys... there's no way you'd be able to keep him from climbing it- and it just = danger of falling off, jumping off, etc.

I won't consider bunks until they are 5 --- the youngest in the house, not just the older one.

My twins share a room- always have- and probably always will - and they love it- but i don't think i'd put my boys in the same room if they were different ages if I didn't HAVE to - and since you don't have to- i wouldn't.... but that's just me. I don't mind toys in the living area... they are kids only once... soon the toys will be gone and you'll wish you had some around.

I used to be Goldie_locks_5 but the new nest is so screwed up that I was forced to start over.

  • We put the girls together last summer when they were 4.5 and 3 in bunk beds from Ikea.  We love having them in the same room and so do they.  We haven't had a problems with the bunk beds.
