I've already had my baby shower about a month ago and it was kind of a little disaster. Regardless though, DH and I were helping out a friend move with our truck and his family heard about us scrambling to get things we needed still. They had a baby a few years ago and had tons of stuff to get rid of, so they went through all of their stuff and gave it to us and they hadn't even met us before. They had really good expensive gear like a swing, 2nd carseat (which i need to check the expiration on), tons of toys, and really nice clothes from the gap, old navy, and carters. Now we can breathe a bit easier and this couple was more than happy to get rid of these things because they are moving into a new (huge and gorgeous!) house.
So basicly we really lucked out and said thank you about a million times but we want to send a card (and eventually a birth announcement) but im not sure how on earth to word the thank you. I was thinking something along the lines of:
Dear so and so,
Thank you so very much for the wonderful clothes and baby gear. I know she will love the swing, and we can definitely use all the toys.
I'm not really sure what else to put in there, or if I should try and keep it short and sweet? We may try seeing them again soon and get together for a bbq before it gets super cold so now that weve made some new friends I want to keep it as nice as possible. Any help or etiquette tips would be great! thanks!
Re: Thank you wording on unexpected gift
I would make sure to add something about how generous and unexpected it was. Maybe something like:
Thank you so very much for the generous gifts! It was very unexpected but so greatly appreciated! We had a lot of last minute shopping we had to do, and you helped check a lot of things off our list!
Then maybe say something about wanting to have them over for a BBQ to show your gratitude.
I'm not a huge fan of short and sweet. I like the more personal messages.
Just my opinion.
Dear So and So,
We wanted to take a minute to thank you again for all of the wonderful things you gave us last week for LO. It was so thoughtful of you, we are still quite overwhelmed by your generosity. The swing, carseat, and all of those clothes and toys will definitely be put to good use very soon. You've really helped lift a load off our shoulders as we prepare for LO's arrival and we can't thank you enough for it all.
All of this.
Agreed. This is really good.
