I work shift-work and DH is a firefighter so works 24 hour shifts every 3rd day. Most of the time one of us is home with the boys but on days that our shifts overlap we have a babysitter/nanny. She usually doesn't have to work more than one day in a row or if she does usually one of the days is a short 3-4 hour day. Anyhow, DH is out of town this weekend for a wedding. We both worked Friday, I work today have tomorrow off and we both work Monday again. So our baby sitter had a full day Friday, a full day today has tomorrow off and works a full day Monday again.
When I got home from work tonight, she told me that she was going to spend the whole day tomorrow relaxing because she has worked so much and will be working again on Monday.
Can I tell you how good that made me feel. Granted they aren't her kids, and it isn't her house, but it is so validating when someone acknowledges that watching your kids all day is hard work. I frequently have a 7 or 8 days off in a row and caring for the boys and keeping up the house day after day is exhausting. Sometimes I'm excited to go back to work just to get a "break." I only wish I could watch them for two days then have an entire day to do nothing but relax.
I love my boys immensely and am incredibly blessed to have the opportunity to raise them. But I gotta say, it is hard work.
Re: This job is hard work!
I agree, it it hard work! I do to sometimes look forward to going to work since it's a somewhat of break IMO
