What can I do with my drop rail cribs?

We're expecting our 3rd next spring and DD's 1 and 2 both had drop-rail cribs (yes, we have 2 b/c they are only 18mos apart and both in them at the same time for awhile).

I'm sure we can't donate them due to safety concerns and I have no idea if/how stores take them back or compensate via gift card? They were purchased in '06 (BRU) and '08 (Target) and I don't have any original receipts but still have the manuals, original manufacturers bar code info. etc.

I called my manufacturers and asked them about that and they sent me a piece to add so that it was no longer a drop rail crib and I plan on using that for this DS

If nothing else you could trade it in at BRU during the trade in event going on for a 25% off coupon.  Not much but better then trashing it.

The manufacturer for our crib sent us pieces to immobilize the sides, so we'll gladly use it for #3 and save it for if/when my sister has kids.

Did you contact the manufactuer?  We had a drop side crib that had been recalled before the big drop side recall for slats breaking, so I got a voucher for 250 for BRU for a new crib.

I am having DH nail the drop side immovable. I've never had a problem with it, and baby #3 is using it right now. We aren't planning on any more, so we didn't want to get a new crib when the one we have is perfect, except for one thing.

DH drilled screws into the sides to keep it from dropping.  Easy solution.
